1994 Mercedes-Benz E420

Few would have seen it coming when the W124 Mercedes-Benz E class was introduced, but towards the end of the model run, the mid-sized luxury sedan got a shot in the arm by way of V8 power. While a new E class was being readied for 1996, Mercedes needed to do something to compete with the V8 heavyweights from Japan, the Lexus LS400 and Infiniti Q45. While the Lexus LS eventually went the way of the S class, the Q45 eventually died altogether, but the impression these cars from the Far East made on US consumers has been lasting. Still, there are those of us who appreciate classic German engineering even if it comes with some compromise. I would wager to say that this E420 for sale in California has aged a bit more gracefully than its Japanese competitors.

1991 Porsche 911 Turbo

While Porsche introduced all-wheel drive on the Carrera in 1989, it wouldn’t be until the 993 generation a few years later that Turbo 911 with all four wheels being driven would work its way into the lineup. Thus, in 1991, the rear-drive Turbo would have its last shout in the form of the 964. The first 964 Turbos, introduced in 1990, had an evolution of the 3.3 liter engine from the 930. It wouldn’t be until early 1993 when the 3.6 Turbo would arrive on the scene, of which less than half of the amount were produced in comparison to the 3.3 version. This early 3.3 Turbo is on offer in Texas, the perfect place to live out your Cannonball Run fantasy.

1981 Volkswagen Rabbit VR6 swap

The Mk1 Rabbit with the 24v VR6 grabbed a lot of attention last week. Hot on its heels, here comes another one with a 12v VR6 swap for sale in New York. Originally a diesel engined Rabbit, any vestige of economy has been thrown out the window. Equipped with a roll cage, fuel cell and various accessories eliminated to save weight, this thing is itching to get out on the track.

2002 Mercedes-Benz C32 AMG

It’s been two decades since Mercedes-Benz absorbed AMG as their in-house tuning firm. Each year, more and more fast Benzes have appeared with the infamous badge on their posteriors, tipping off that extra juice under the skin to the casual observer. One AMG model that I feel went a bit unloved was the C32 AMG. Sandwiched between two V8 AMG C class models in the US market (the W202 C43 and W203 C55), the C32 offered more punch via the way of a Kompressor, or supercharger, as was the case with a number of AMG and non-AMG models in the Mercedes lineup at the time. A lot of early W203 C classes, including the C32, have been run hard and put up wet, but this C32 for sale in New Jersey appears to have led a fairly pampered life by the looks of it.

1986 Porsche 944

Just what will $5,000 buy you in the new year? Sure, there are plenty of Porsches out there you can find at this price, but most are basket cases that will run you out of house and home. But how about this 1986 944 owned by the proverbial little old lady? Sure, we’d all love to have a 911, but for those of us of more modest means who still want to get into a P-car, this is one sweet ride.
