1987 BMW M6

$_57 (2)
As E30s go bonkers, E24s continue to be the dark horse in the 80s M-cars race to the top of the appreciation charts. Those who know appreciate the great styling, fantastic engine, and impeccable cruising ability. Those who don’t, well – don’t; they see it slip by as innocuously as any other old Bimmer. Today’s comes in a very subdued blue (sublued?) with just 68k miles. The asking price of $24.5k seems, for once, pretty darn reasonable. You could drive this another 30k miles in the next 5-10 years and sell it for a hefty profit, having a great time while doing so.

GCFSB Legend: 1988 BMW E28 M5 Part 1

I’ve alluded to my M5 ownership throughout my posts here, but haven’t really put together a more informative piece about what it’s been like to own my dream car. No, the experience has not always been a dream, but having a firm belief going into ownership that the car is a dream has been a great baseline attitude when something breaks or the mechanic’s bills come. To quote Walter Sobchak paraphrasing Theodor Herzl: “If you will it, dude, it is no dream.”

1969 Mercedes-Benz Unimog

$_57 (3)

Now HERE is a Unimog that is all set to be converted into my most badass of RVs. Used in Desert Storm by the Belgians, it’s been used as a cabinetry truck most recently. What I love, besides the quintessential Mog-ness, is that it has 90% of the hardware already installed for some fold-down beds. With the Pohl Cabinetry decals removed, the reversed H.E.L.P. on the front would be a great entrance into a campground, and by campground, I mean anywhere I want to sleep because nothing will stop a Mog.

1993 Volkswagen Eurovan Westfalia Weekender

My proclivities lie in the 80s, especially when it comes to VW Vans. The old buses are cool, but after riding in my brother’s college-edition enough, it’s a little post-war for me. The Eurovan has always seemed like a capable fellow, but I was initially turned off by front wheel drive and less distinctive styling than the Vanagon. A friend is in search of one to someday be the ultimate family vacation vehicle, and despite being the more modern Van, they can be had more affordably than Vanagons. Today’s eschews the bland looks with an amazing original teal paint job. It’s put on some miles, but that’s what adventure vans are for!

1981 BMW M1

I’ve written up some cool M1s, but this one may take the cake even from the Procar-widebodies if for no other reason than this is the M1 you see in the history books. Orange on black with that badass cloth/leather interior is what the E26 is all about. Add to that the fact that it’s from the badass Canepa Collection and has just 3,300 miles, and this is a frickin’ museum piece. Or it could be… I’m a much bigger fan of cars that are used. I’d construct one of those viewing rooms which the internet has seen made for E30 M3s and Ferraris; I’d soak in the glorious orange like it was a Seasonal Affective Disorder light and bust this thing out a few times a year for some fun.
