2008 Porsche 911 Targa 4S

As much as I’m dismayed by the proliferation of automatic and PDK gearboxes in the Porsche range, I have to admit that it may not be a bad thing. A car like this 997 Targa 4S is not exactly the 911 of yore. That is, a lightweight sports car with two missions in mind: going fast and keeping you on your toes while going about that task. As the 911 has aged, it has gotten larger and heavier, but it is still quite a capable machine. This 2008 911 Targa 4S for sale from our friends at Automobili Limited is practically new, with just over 7,000 miles on the clock. It has the 5-speed Tiptronic gearbox, however, that tends to fit with the Targa’s persona versus other 911s, as one may want to cruise along a bit more slowly and enjoy the fresh air.

2002 BMW M Coupe

Following on to the 1999 BMW Z3 2.8 Coupe we saw earlier in the week, here’s a car at the other end of the E36/8 production run spectrum, the 2002 M Coupe. Enthusiasts know these are the ones to get, as the late model M Coupes are packing the desirable S54 engine. This example for sale in New Mexico is one of the few made without the sunroof, sure to please those looking for a track day hero.

1994 Porsche 928GTS

The market for collectible Porsches seems to have stagnated in recent months. Uncertainty about the economy, the grim future of monetary policy, and the fickleness of the stock market make illiquid assets such as collectible cars seem riskier now than in recent history. As a result, values of rare Porsches such as the 928 GTS have remained static over the summer.

Sporting the classic Guards Red on Black color combo, the 928 GTS featured here is one of several listed on eBay. With prices ranging from $49,000 to $120,000, this car is one of the lower-priced and higher-mileage GTSs on eBay. All of the available cars are fitted with automatic transmissions. Examining the 928 Registry reveals that this car has had several owners, and has resided in the states of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Florida, and Washington. A Google search of the vin uncovers a recent eBay advertisement for the car when it was listed for sale by owner in Arizona with an asking price of $55,000. Given the information available online, it’s obvious that this car has been around, but it has fortunately spent the majority of its time in dry southern climates.

2012 Porsche Panamera S

I paid a visit to the local Porsche dealer over the long weekend to check out the wares, specifically the Macan S. As great as the PDK transmission is, I would still prefer the Macan with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Given that is not on the option list, it has fallen down a few notches on the list of potentials for my second vehicle. One car that was available for a time with a manual gearbox of which few are aware is the Panamera. After it first debuted, certain rear-drive models, including this Panamera S for sale on the western border of Germany near Saarbrücken were available with a 6-speed manual. Few, if any, Panameras made it to the US with three pedals. I personally have yet to come across one. Even still, in Europe, these big sedans so equipped are rare.

1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC

Walk around any new car lot these days and one thing seems to be lacking: color. Even scanning the Porsche lot I visited a few days ago, there was not much on hand outside of silver, white and black. Sure, these colors are good for resale, but where’s everyone’s imagination these days? What ever happened to some of the bright colors of yore that graced some of the cars we know and love? Signal Red might not be your typical S-class hue, but it sure makes a statement on this 1989 560SEC. After all, this was a car devised as a personal luxury coupe. Why not personalize it? This 560SEC for sale in Seattle is closing in on 100,000 miles, has been garaged since new and comes replete with service records from the Mercedes-Benz dealer.
