1962 Porsche 356B Carrera 2/2000 GS Four Cam

Carrera. The name has graced thousands of Porsche models throughout history, derived from the name of the famous Mexican race, La Carrera Panamericana. The Carrera name appeared on some 356 models with the four cam motor, referred to as the Fuhrmann engine, after the engineer who designed it, Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann. The engine could be thought of as the 911 Turbo of its day, since it cost nearly double that of a Super 90 with the pushrod engine. Originally designed for competition, the four cam didn’t sell in large numbers and as a result, it has become amongst the most valuable of the 356 range. This 356B Carrera is for sale at Canepa out in California. Originally sold to a dealer in Italy, it spent a fair amount of years in The Porsche Museum of Japan collection before coming to the US for a restoration.

1994 Porsche 968 Cabriolet

With the Porsche Boxster now having been around for almost two decades, there are plenty of good, affordable examples out there such as our Feature Listing example from last week. But, if you want to go the road less traveled with affordable, open-air Porsche motoring, there is this car, the 968 Cabriolet. A slightly forgotten member of the Porsche lineup, these two seater sports cars were the final evolution of the 924/944 formula and featured such up to date equipment as a 6-speed manual gearbox and variable valve timing on their big 3.0 liter four cylinder engine. This red 6-speed for sale outside of Philadelphia has its services up to date and is ready for a new owner. It’s never too early to get ready for summer motoring!

Economy With A Touch Of Class: The Four Cylinder 190E

When it first arrived on the scene, the Mercedes 190 ruffled a few feathers, as traditional Mercedes buyers were fearful that a small Benz might cheapen the brand image. Fast forward 30 years since its arrival on the scene, and it’s hard to imagine this conservatively styled, if compact sedan, offending anyone who is a fan of the marque, such has been the proliferation of new models in the lineup. Having grown up with a 190E 2.6 in our family, I’m a big fan of this car’s competent performance and classic build quality. It’s a car that did everything well yet didn’t shout about it. This 190E for sale in Germany isn’t a 2.6, but comes with a decent amount of kit and a 5-speed manual gearbox to get the most out of the powerplant.

Today, we’re featuring two four cylinder 190Es, one here in the US and another for sale in Germany. First, let’s take a look at a 190E 2.3 for sale in Kentucky.

2014 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

The current generation 911 has been with us now for two model years and the reviews have been generally positive. There have been some gripes about the lack of a manual transmission in the high performance version, the GT3. But with many 991s coming equipped with the PDK transmission, most critics and enthusiasts have begun to accept that these gearboxes are better for performance and fuel economy, if not outright fun. But if you want a bit of old school in your 991 series 911, how about a lightly used 4S such as this one for sale in North Carolina with the 7-speed manual and SportDesign package?

1997 Mercedes-Benz SL320 40th Anniversary Edition

The R129 SL still had a bit of life left in it as it entered the late 1990s, but 1997 would be the end for the six-cylinder SL in the US market. Before the SL320 would leave the market, a special edition model would appear to commemorate 40 years of the 300SL, the 40th Anniversary Edition SL. Only 250 SL320 models came with this package, along with 500 of the SL500. The SL500 would feature Crimson Metallic with Chestnut interior and the SL320, like you see here, would be offered in Quartz Blue with a gray interior and royal maple wood trim. This wood trim was an odd choice, as it appeared more like marble than wood. I wasn’t a particular fan of it, but it is certainly different. If you’re looking for an SL that stands out from the crowd, this SL320 for sale in Arizona would be a good selection.
