The early M cars are the purest of the line, and it’s great to find them in original, unmolested, and unabused condition. There isn’t a whole lot of info on the listing about this M5, but the pictures and mileage point to a very clean, very original example. Â The interior and exterior look practically new, the only aspect reflecting its 22 years of age being the engine, but that’s more of a nice reminder that there was time when engines weren’t hidden by anonymous sheets of black plastic. Â You just don’t find the early M-cars with 50k miles very often, and it’s especially tempting when it’s an M5 with the robust S38 powerplant.
Priced just under $17k, it’s not a cheap car, but I really think it’s a good value. Â I like that it sits on the original wheels and as I mentioned, is extremely clean top to bottom. Â Not only a good buy for the growing historical value, this is a car that could be a ton of fun through another 150k miles.

Totally worth the money. Yeah you might get stuck with an expensive rebuild on the engine but you might not. If you found one cheaper you’d just end up spending 10K to get it to this point anyway so you might as well start with something this nice. I want this to park next to my 92 500E.
It’s worth the money if it’s only had a 2-3 owners, the paint is original (other than bumper and hood) and the service records are all there. These cars handle way better than most would ever think. I’d love to have one if I had room for more toys.
I think that’s really well priced too. Nice spot!

Driving my E36 last night, I was thinking what I would get if I wanted something more mechanical. The original M5 popped into my head as a car that I would really enjoy. I have a gut feeling this car is in need of some maintenance though, as the bumper looks sad, and I see some underhood corrosion present that would not be there if the car was truly loved all these years. I suspect it sat in the corner of a multi car garage while the flashier toys got some workout. Anyway, worth looking into.
