There’s a lot of cars that I sit here and think if only they were still manufactured, they would still find buyers. One car that sticks out in my mind is the E38 BMW 7 series. While the 7 series that preceded it, the E32, pushed this model into the executive sedan mainstream, the E38 cemented BMW’s place in that segment. But then came the E65 7 series in 2002 which polarized BMW traditionalists with it’s avant garde styling and complex electronic wizardry. Time has passed and the criticism of that 7 series has softened, but one thing it won’t do is age as gracefully as the E38. Want to play CEO? This 740i for sale in Nebraska has but 25k miles and will let you live out that fantasy.

Every time I go out on the web and browse around for a BMW E36 M3 sedan, the selection is usually a bit underwhelming. A lot of these four-door M cars were automatic and while it certainly doesn’t make it a terrible car, it does nothing to sate the appetite of the enthusiast. There’s also a lot of higher mileage examples out there which can potentially scare off the novice M car buyer. This M3 sedan, however, is a 5-speed manual and even with 125k under its belt, still looks the business.

2 CommentsAs we close out the year here at GCFSB, it’s safe to say that 2013 could be considered the year of the M3. With the original E30 leading the charge on the value charts, we’ve seen the effect trickle down and values have begun to creep up on its successor, the E36 M3. With the E36, however, there were several different variants available, some being more popular than others. Curiously, the M3 sedan was a tad bit lighter than its two-door sibling, making it the not so obvious choice for the track day enthusiast. Does the automatic gearbox in this example for sale in Florida diminish the fun?

1 CommentBack when I had my Mk3 GTI 2.0, I longed for the day I could afford a VR6. Even though the added horsepower coupled with front-wheel drive generally goes against my motoring tendencies, I think it is safe to say this narrow angle V6 was one of the best powerplants of the last couple decades, ranking up there with BMW’s inline-6 and Audi’s 4.2 liter V8. The VR6 ended up in a lot of different VAG products and still does duty in some models in various forms to this day. One of the lesser seen VR6 engined VWs you see these days is the Mk3 Jetta GLX VR6. Offering similar thrills to the GTI but with added practicality, this was a formidable competitor in its class. Like the Mk3 Golfs and GTIs, it’s near impossible to find good examples of the Mk3 Jetta, no matter what engine it’s packing. This GLX VR6 for sale in Philadelphia is a little rough around the edges but has the all-important 5-speed manual gearbox and is generally nicer than any others I’ve seen on the market as of late.

3 CommentsMany people around the world today are celebrating Boxing Day, a day that has been described as a sort of second Christmas. Traditionally this is the date when laborers would receive gifts and offerings from their employers in exchange for their service, but it has evolved into a Black Friday, with retailers passing on post-Christmas specials to consumers. This Boxing Day, why not celebrate with a sports car that has the heart of a boxer? The Porsche 993. This final year 993 Targa for sale in Texas is wearing the iconic Arena Red from the era and has covered a scant 36,000 miles since new.
