1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL

We all have a bucket list of cars that we would like to own over our lifetime. One that has perpetually been on my list is the Mercedes R107 SL, specifically, one of the later models like this 1987 560SL for sale in New Jersey. When I was growing up, a neighbor had a 560SL just like this one and I was always enamored with it, dreaming of the day that I would someday own a Mercedes. Even though the design was well over a decade old at the time, it was still a vehicle that commanded respect with its presence. After owning two C classes for a period of ten years, I’ve gotten a bit of the Mercedes bug out of my system, especially in light of some of the new models that are, in my opinion, a bit overstyled. So I sit here, still dreaming of the day I will finally snag my R107.

1998 BMW Z3

The BMW Z3 got a grand start in life, appearing alongside the James Bond Character in the 1995 movie GoldenEye. It was a Z3 exactly as you see here, in Atlanta Blue, a color that still looks great to this day. But enthusiasts were left a bit wanting for more at its launch, as this sleek two-seater was initially powered by a 1.9 liter inline-4 cranking out 138 horsepower. A bit underwhelming for what was to be BMWs first mass market foray into the roadster category. In 1997, the cries were answered with the insertion of a six cylinder engine under the hood and an M variant the following year. With ever more powerful variants having appeared down the line, the initial four cylinder Z3s are a bit of a bargain and a solid choice for some summer thrills on a budget.

1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

Only recently have we seen the market for the Mercedes-Benz 190SL and certain R107 SLs trend upward, but for as long as I can remember, the W113 SL, otherwise known as the “Pagoda” has been the hands down favorite of collectors. I’d almost consider it the air-cooled 911 of the Mercedes set, given where values have been hovering for the last couple of years. This 1971 280SL for sale in Texas represents the last year for the Pagoda. This one was restored by noted specialist Bud’s Benz in Georgia in an uncommon Seafoam Green.

2001 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Sport

Aside from the iconic 500E/E500, fewer Mercedes-Benzes from the 1990s get my attention more than a well-equipped R129 SL roadster. This 2001 SL500 with the Sport package replete with AMG wheels looks supremely fresh, as so it should having covered just over 23,000 miles. Not a fan of the new age styling from the house of the Three Pointed Star? Here is your chance at a like new R129.

1986 Mercedes-Benz 300SL 5-speed manual

The R107 SL had one of the longest lifespans of any model in Mercedes-Benz history. From 1972 to the dawn of the 1990s, this two-seat roadster represented the style, performance and durability that were hallmarks of the Three Pointed Star. Curiously, Mercedes decided the V8 versions were enough variety for the US consumer, leaving the six cylinder models, some with manual gearboxes, to other markets. This low mileage 1986 300SL for sale in is now eligible for importation to the US under the 25 year guideline. Signal red over black leather is a classic combination for these cars. The 5-speed manual coupled to the 3.0 liter inline-6 makes for an involving experience. Look a little closer and there is one option that had me ogling over this car. The very rare on-board computer. I have never before seen this option fitted to an SL.
