The girl next door: 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo for sale

There have been a lot of changes in my life recently. I knew I was in the market for my M5, and simultaneously my girlfriend and I were acting upon long-laid plans to move in together. In classic car-guy fashion, one of my top priorities in finding a new place was to have a garage. Too long had I circled the streets of San Francisco searching for a parking spot, and there was no way in hell I’d put the M5 through the parking situations that I felt fine muscling the Toyota truck into. I knew it was a good sign when we opened the 3-car garage for the triplex that would eventually become our home and saw a 993 Turbo sitting under a car cover. “The M5 would fit in just fine here,” I thought to myself. On this past weekend’s brisk but sunny Sunday, our new neighbor Mark brought his baby out for a waxing, which he lovingly applied with his bare hands. As I tend to hunt for Bimmers Audis and VDubs, it inspired me to learn something about these Turbos, quite obviously (in my eyes) the zenith of the 911 model. Fat whale tail spoiler, all-wheel drive, and 400hp of twin-turbo fury in the cleanest of 911 shapes, I knew this was a special car. It wasn’t until I dug a little deeper that I realized that Mark doesn’t have just any 911; he has the 911 everyone wants. Makes perfect sense to me, but I had no idea that delving into the eBay marketplace would result in cars on the steep side of $50k, with the choicest eclipsing $100,000. Holy cow.

Well, why not showcase the best of the best? I haven’t snooped enough to see how many miles Mark’s has, but the interior and exterior appear near-perfect. Today’s 993 Turbo is the cream of the crop, having covered just under 6k miles. The black leather doesn’t look quite as luscious as Mark’s tan interior, but I guess it will suffice. You better be confident you like the interior, though, as this creampuff doesn’t come cheap. Bidding sits at $80k at time of writing, with a jaw-dropping Buy-It-Now of $116k.

A 1997 Turbo approaching the price of a new one? If you don’t care about 0-60 times, I think you’d be smart to buy this one.

The “last generation of the aircooled 911’s” dogma is pushing these 993 Turbos into stupid money territory. Nice car, but count me out.

I find it sad that dealers of these types of car feel the need to gouge the customer even more by adding a “mandatory” $249 “document” fee, which is pure profit.

you need to drive a GT3 or GT3RS. it makes the turbo look like the fat and happy car that it is. if you want a real porsche get into one of these models.
