There was a time when all I wanted in this world was a low mileage 1987 Porsche 944. Not the turbo, too much work there and my pocketbook couldn’t handle the drama.
I got close too. The husband of one of my co-workers decided to sell his one owner 944 with 90k. Not as low mileage as I would have liked but it was loved and darn tempting. I took it for a drive and was amazed by how tight it still felt and how well it was aging. I took the weekend to think about it and…
Well, I bought a fully restored 1974 914. In the end the allure of open air motoring was just too hard to resist. I never should have sold that car! If I had a dime for every time I said that I would have enough funds to buy another.
Anyhow, about those ’87 944’s. Here is as nice an example as you will find.
1987 Porsche 944:
From the seller –
“This is totally original w/all the service records. It is a 2 owner car since new w/all the original paperwork, window sticker, warranty books & sales brochure. This car has never seen any weather, always stored in a climate controlled building. The body paint, interior, motor compartment are as they were the day it left the dealership – NEW NEW NEW! This is most likely the best original available in the country today. Options: Color – Porsche Guards Red Interior – Tan leather seats Power windows (all glass tinted) Rear window defogger Electric rear hatch release Power driver’s seat Alpine AM/FM stereo radio (4 speaker system) Reclining front bucket seats Climate control air conditioning Stainless muffler w/chrome tips (factory) Touring package Limited slip differential Central locking system 5 speed transmission 2.5 liter motor 215/65 radial tires mounted on alloy 15×7 wheels.”
In looking at the pictures this car seems to be as clean as the seller states. About as clean as any 944 I have seen. Oh, but it has been in a wreck and if AutoCheck caught it chances are it was substantial. Even with the accident I peg this car in the $12-13k range. You just don’t seen 944’s with this kind of mileage all that often.
What? Bidding is already up to $15.1k with quite some time left in the auction? Shows you what I know, very little. I am guessing the reserve is in the $20K range and would be shocked if bidding ran that high, only time will tell.

$20K now and reserve not met… this is mental money for a 944 no matter what the mileage. Has to be a record price for a non-Turbo in recent memory.
I am with you on this Dallas. I have never seen a non-Turbo go for this kind of money. Certainly not one that was been in a wreck.
The “ultra low mileage price multiplier” appears to be in full effect here. It’s completely nuts.
Hello Seller,
Do you still have the item available for sale? However i will like to know the
following questions regarding the ad.
Q#1. How long have you owned it?
Q#2.Why are you selling it?
Q#3. In your opinion, what sort of condition is it?
Q#4. Any more available photo?

Not a chance in the world this auction action is real. The car is not worth 1/2 of the current bid.
