I’ve always thought that the W114 and W115, affectionately known as the Strich Acht (Stroke Eight), is one of the most underrated Mercedes-Benzes of all time. Perhaps the W123 that followed gained such a cult following its predecessor got lost in the wake of its popularity. Perhaps it was the styling that was underrated to a fault, yet retained all the classic Mercedes hallmarks. It’s unfortunate, as these were, amazingly, the first Mercedes to be built on an all new chassis post World War II. The subtle styling was the creation of Paul Bracq, responsible for many of Mercedes’ greats over the years. A variety of engines could be had in the sedan, ranging from a 2.0 liter inline four cylinder petrol engine to a 2.8 liter inline six. The legendary OM617 five cylinder diesel made its first appearance in this model, as well.
This 250 for sale in Florida is a six cylinder car equipped with an automatic transmission, making it a good alternative for those seeking a practical Mercedes classic with a bit more power to keep up with traffic.

This car exeudes class, elegance and style. It is easier to drive around town and park than any of the “land yacht” 280’s. Also less problematic, more fuel efficient and easier to drive! 1971 Mercedes 250 sedan w114. It is the 2.8L straight 6 and pulls hard and clean and burns absolutely no oil, high compression. ALL NEW FLUIDS, brakes, radiator, transmission, engine, rear diff. All suspension and brakes and other maintenance items have been addressed as needed and tires are almost brand new. This car drives and looks so nice you can use it as a show car that is fully sorted and drives as reliable as a new one. About 36k miles SUPER CLEAN inside, outside, underside!
Exterior is in 95% condition I just had and expensive paint correction done and it is 100% free of swirls but had 3-4 scratches that are about 1-2inches, No fading or pealing at all, looks stunning. Interior is in even better condition overall. I have the origional floor mats as well as the coco mats pictured. Car is wired and ready for speakers just needs a headunit in place of the block off plate. I drive this car to relax and free my mind so I don’t listen to music in it. Air condition blows incredibly cold and strong. Brand new exhaust. This classic Benz needs absolutely NOTHING to run perfect and drive daily for another 20-30k miles except oil changes! This car has gets at least 10x the number of “thumbs up” and compliments my bentley continental gt & maserati granturismo S get! From 10ft away this car looks like 100grand!
Here is a walk around video of the car. http://youtu.be/xVXc3e2ifUQ

What isn’t perfect…..very short list….
-Something broke in the odometer and it now turns at about 1/10th (why I said about 36k) the speed and the glass trim on the bezel is loose and could be reglued back on.
-Windshield sprayer needs a new hose line. I never drive it in rain and its always washed and kept in my garage so I never bothered.
OTHERWISE the car is THE perfect show car you can drive on weekends or during the week to work!
TRADES:
I may consider trades for Audemars Piguet watches. Shipping if buyer arranges it. I have had great results with Exotic Car Transport based out of Orlando FL.
These Stroke Eights are a good choice for those seeking a classic Mercedes on a budget. You can find good ones out there for much less than what you would pay for a new subcompact and they are hearty, reliable vehicles. With the slimmer bumpers and the inline six petrol engine, this car has a fairly specification. The seller has priced this vintage Benz at about the top of the range, as you can expect to pay somewhere between $7,000 and $12,000 for a clean W114/W115.

I have been in this car & I know the guy that owns it. He’s a stand-up guy, honest, knowledgable & car fanatic. The car is pretty freakin’ gorgeous. I kinda want to buy it myself but I’ve been pining for an 80s M6 or something rear engine air-cooled (Beetle or 911). Plus I need to sell one of my motorcycles before even considering. Still, if the price were right and if I could implement protection features to some of the outside body and interior to keep it getting damaged from my two beagles (& sell my 1995 C220) then I would snap this ride up. It oozes style and character.
Walter,
Thanks very much for your insight. We always appreciate our readers chiming in if they know they are familiar with the cars we feature. It certainly looks like a great Mercedes. Here’s hoping it goes to a good home.
