Let’s face it, a lot of us who happen to be car enthusiasts are speed freaks as well. We feature a lot of fast cars here on GCFSB, and one of my favorite fast BMWs from the 1980s is the M6. The shark nose, airy greenhouse and modest rear lip spoiler always grabs my attention, not to mention the 3.5 liter inline six with 256 horsepower. But for those who don’t need to get there in a hurry, the garden variety 635CSi is not a bad choice. Given the more relaxed nature of this car, most of them came equipped with the 4-speed automatic, such as this 1985 example for sale in New York. The metallic brown hue looks like something out of the 1970s, but the low mileage and condition is sure to garner some attention.

1985 BMW 635CSi on eBay
With just over 50,000 miles this classic collectible is amazing. The paint looks great with no flaws. No flaws in the paint at all. The wheel wells are rust free. There is no rust on the body of this 635CSi. The interior is spotless. No rips or tears. If you are looking to buy a classic in great working condition, this is your car. No restoration needed. The only thing this car needs is an owner. This is a smoke-free automobile. There is no damage evident on this vehicle. This is a garage kept vehicle. The engine on this vehicle is running properly. This vehicle has no known defects. The mileage represented on this vehicle is accurate. There are no signs of prior damage on this vehicle. There are no noticeable dings on the exterior of this vehicle. This vehicle has a smooth shifting transmission. All power equipment is functioning properly. Overall, this vehicle’s exterior is clean. The interior is clean and in good condition. There is approximately 75% of the tire tread remaining.
While M6 prices are climbing, 635CSi values have held pretty steady. It’s not terribly hard to find a clean example with under 100,000 miles for under $10,000. Given this is an earlier 635CSi without the switchable automatic transmission, I’d suspect this car will wind up somewhere between $7,500 and $10,000. If by chance this were a late model 1988 or 1989 example with the same mileage, I wouldn’t be surprised at a final bid of over $10,000.

Nice find. Little concerned about two things: why are the photos seemingly old? The background seems very verdant for Long Island in the wintertime. Also, in the photos of the instrument cluster, the temperature is too high. M30b34s in the right shape should really never get much about the middle of the gauge, unless it is very hot and the AC is on in stop and go traffic, and even then in the right shape they’ll run at the middle of the gauge. I would want to check that the radiator is not clogged, a common problem on these cars when they are not driven and fluids are not regularly flushed.
I thought an 85 would have euro bumpers. Could this be an 87?
A very nice car and hard to find in this condition these days. 1985 is the first year for the 635CSi in the United States. The car does have the correct bumpers. Also I’m pretty sure the car is “burgundrot metallic” or burgundy metallic, not brown. I don’t think there was a brown for Sixes in 1985.
The seller has the same car listed on Autotrader for $11,995 which should give you a ballpark of where the reserve is set.
