I visited The Netherlands for the first time about five years ago. It was an interesting experience. Being a German speaker, the language had a familiar twist and the people, while appearing similar to Germans, were a bit more relaxed and less formal. Whatever the case may be, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. What struck me the most, however, was the sheer variety of interesting cars I ran into on the streets in Amsterdam and beyond. Cars like this BMW E28 535i Touring. We’re a bunch of five-door fans here at GCFSB, but does it get any better or more rare than this?
I’ve been aware of the existence of an E28 Touring, but I’ve never seen one in the metal and it’s rare that I come across any documentation with regards to them. Under 100 were built by Schulz and the conversion looks, in my opinion, exactly as how BMW would have done it if they built an E28 Touring. Many thanks to our reader Pavel for bringing this rare piece to our attention!

Last year, the car was stripped and rebuilt. Rust removal, treated and completely repainted in the original color Diamond Black. Equipped with very beautiful OZ Fittipaldi wheels with good tires all round. Car is delivered with new MOT Testing.
Closing in on $17,000 USD, this is not cheap for an E28. Then again, if you buy one of these, you’re in very rarified air when it comes to vintage BMWs. This car is legal to import to the US and I’d wager to say you would probably be the only one in the country with one of these haulers. It would almost be impossible to place a value on one of these, given that so few were made, but if I had the money and the car was mechanically and cosmetically sound, I would have no issues paying the full asking price for this machine.

Even though I’ve owned an E28 535i, and I should know about this model, I’ve always thought the touring model WAS a factory car. No idea they were a specialty coachbuilder model. And yes, with two major port cities, exporting from Holland shouldn’t be too difficult. Marktplaats is a good site to keep an eye on!
