There was a lot of changes in store for BMW in the late 1980s. In 1987, a larger, more powerful 7 series debuted with the option of a brand new V12 engine, the 3 series convertible would capture the hearts and minds of yuppies across the US and a new 5 series would debut in 1988. However, the E28 wasn’t done for that easily and would continue being sold through the end of the model year. This 520i for sale in Florida is a model we never saw in the US market, with a 2.0 liter inline-6 that found it’s way under the hood of a number other BMWs in other markets. While some pine for the crash bumper look of the 1980s BMWs, I tend to prefer the slimmer Euro bumpers of this particular car, lending a bit of a cleaner look.

This BMW is a time machine. It is as clean and original as a 27-year old car can get. I imagine it runs and drives very close to when it was new. This is 1988 BMW 520i, a model that was never imported to the USA. It has 2.0L inline 6 cylinder engine, which is virtually the same as US spec BMW 525i, only with a smaller displacement.
It is a 1 owner car that we imported from Japan. Garage kept since new. It is a Euro spec car so the seats are cloth with manual adjustments. It has power windows, mirrors and locks, power sun roof as well as automatic transmission.Exterior of this BMW is just perfect. The paint, glass and wheels are free of any imperfections. Even upon a very close inspection, you won’t find any flaws. It is also 100% rust free. The interior is flawless as well. It basically looks brand new. Nothing negative to mention. Dash is crack free. The steering wheel is not original, but we have the original one as well and it will come with the car.
Mechanically, this BMW is as perfect as a used car can get. Everything works as designed. It runs as nice as you would expect from a 38K-mile BMW. The AC is ice cold. No issues at all. We inspected the car and replaced a few vacuum lines as well as installed brand new OEM rear muffler. The old one had a rust hole in it.
We have the service booklet with all records going back to when the car was brand new. All miles are documented.
This car looks almost brand new from every angle. This BMW has not been sitting for years. It has been regularly driven but on very short distances. It had active registration until was shipped to the US, which means it was actively driven and serviced. This BMW has clean FL title and now it can be titled and registered anywhere in the US.
I dare this car could be duplicated or found in similar condition with similar mileage. Please, note the odometer is in kilometers, not miles. If you don’t think this BMW is real, please don’t bother calling or sending emails.
WE WILL BE HAPPY TO ACCOMODATE 3RD PARTY INSPECTION OR TAKE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS FOR POTENTIAL BUYER.

Unfortunately, this E28 isn’t a 5-speed manual, but if it’s uniqueness you’re after, this car would be hard to beat stateside. We’ve seen non-M variety E28s of similar vintage range in the $8,000 to $12,000 territory, which is where I’d suspect a car like this might wind up. The automatic gearbox might hold it back a bit, but the condition and rarity of the 520i on these shores might play a part in upping the value factor just a bit.

Nice car but for that money this nice 633csi looks like a lot more upside.
