Some days I come across a car and think “for the price, how can I go wrong?” This 944 is one of them. Of course, it’s not always that simple, as it costs a considerable amount more to keep a vintage Porsche on the road than your average used subcompact. However, if you can snag one of these sports car icons from the 1980s in good shape for a decent price, it would give reasonable breathing room to set aside some cash for the inevitable maintenance and repairs. Ready to take the Porsche plunge? Then feast your eyes on this 1989 944 for sale in South Carolina.

1989 Porsche 944 powered by the preferred 2.7 liter engine. This black 944 with white linen leather interior is all original with 107k miles and in incredible condition. This car has always been garage kept, covered, and all maintenance is up to date. In the last 2k miles I have replaced the timing belt, balance belt, converted the air conditioning to R134A with a new compressor, replaced power steering reservoir, and changed the oil to Schaeffer Full Synthetic. I have done 2 upgrades to the car including a BMC performance air filter and a Lindsey Racing 944 Max Chip. All work has been performed locally at Autometrics and I have the service records to show. Autometrics tells me this is the cleanest original 944 that comes into their shop. I have over 10k invested to make this the cleanest most turnkey 1989 Porsche 944 available.

Frankly, looking over this 944, it’s refreshing to think you can still get into a P-car in decent shape from the 1980s for under $10,000. We’ve all been speculating about the rise in popularity and value when it comes to front engine, water-cooled Porsches, and we’ve seen a few models take off, such as the 928GTS and 944 Turbo S. The guys over at flüssig magazine have done a great job in documenting this trend. After speaking yesterday with Andy at flüssig, he had the following to say: “great color combo, price is right, super clean interior. Win, win, win.” The asking price puts this car solidly around the median value for a 944 of this vintage. Getting one that’s garage kept, is up to date on maintenance and comes armed with service records is icing on the cake.

And the slight advantage of the larger 2.7 liter engine which I think was 1989 only.

Nice to see some of the more expensive regular maintenance (timing belt) already taken care of, plus the AC conversion taken care of (not sure how they went this long without switching over in hot-and-humid SC). Relatively low mileage, clean and well maintained. This really does appear to be “the deal” for the person looking to get into a 944 – and if you haven’t owned at least one 944, you really owe it to yourself to get one.
