Outside of the AMG tuned model, it’s no longer possible for US customers to spec an E-class sedan with a V8 engine. I was surprised to come across this fact the last time I logged on to Mercedes’ USA website. This might seem rather alarming, however, manufacturers have advanced technology to the point where V6 engines, some with the benefit of turbocharging, can produce V8 levels of power with greater economy. Over 20 years ago, the E-class was graced with its first eight-cylinder powerplant, in the form of the M119, a twin-cam, 32-valve V8. Thus, the 400E was born. While the W124 would bow out of the lineup in 1995, the V8 gave this sedan a shot in the arm it needed to compete with newfound competition from the Asian manufacturers. Unlike the Porsche built, performance minded 500E, it’s rather hard to find a 400E in good shape these days. However, this 400E for sale in Michigan looks sharp with larger 16″ wheels in the stock pattern with its lower body cladding painted to match.

1993 Mercedes 400E, Beautiful Near Original Condition.
One of the best Pre-1994, Mercedes Benz ‘E’ Class cars available. One of the last of the elegant mid-sized Mercedes Benz cars before they went off the rails trying to build Lexus copies.
This 1993 Mercedes Benz 400E is in very good condition with just under 149,000 miles. Near original with the following modifications: 16X8 vs. 15X7 wheels in the original pattern, the lower body cladding and fascias painted body color vs. original metallic gray, lowered 1†using Eibach springs. The original shocks and anti-roll bars were retained to preserve the OE ride quality. The car looks more like a 500E than the original 400E.
I installed new Pirelli P6 M&S 215/55R16 tires about 5,000 miles ago. Last 3 services were performed by Arbormotion in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Most all prior service was performed at Mercedes Benz of Ann Arbor. Eurotech in Ann Arbor, MI installed the lowered suspension and realigned to OE specs. Services were performed to schedule and all receipts come with the car for service and modifications.
I bought this 1993 Mercedes Benz 400E used from L.P.Evans in Miami, FL with 21,000 miles in 1995, had it shipped up to Michigan, I have owned it since. The car belonged to the Miami dealer owner’s wife for 1.5 years. The car has always been stored in a heated garage during winters, I have always washed the car by hand and spray washed the underside at every wash.
If you are looking for a truly high quality and elegant Mercedes Benz E Class this car is hard to beat.

Thanks for looking.
Normally I don’t like it when folks paint the body cladding on Mercedes-Benzes of this vintage, but in black, this 400E pulls off the look well. It definitely gives off a bit more of an executive express air. In addition, the saddle tan leather compliments the black quite nicely. More color on the minor accident listed on the Carfax report would certainly be helpful, as this might be the reasoning as to why the car was painted at one point. But overall, this is one of the tidiest 400Es I’ve seen in recent memory. While it wasn’t my favorite of the Mercedes that have passed through the garage of family Henriques over the years, I still have fond memories of the Brilliant Silver 400E my father piloted for a time, which, to this day, was the only eight cylinder car that has ever passed through the hands of my parents or I.

Car’s from Florida, one of the title washing capitals of the USA, it’s at a mileage where a W124 needs a lot of love, it’s got an accident history, it’s been dubiously resprayed, it has a firmer spring setting while keeping stock springs, it has bigger wheels than stock. At this ask, all these questions/problems better be explained or dealt with before I write a check. The ride must be distinctly un-Mercedes-like.
It does look nice, but it’s been on Ebay a few times with no takers, for good reason.
Pet peeve is when the ask is set at what must be the reserve price and the BIN is only a few dollars higher. Where’s the sport in that? Why not just buy from a dealer?
The best of the best post-facelift 1994/1995s–those with low miles (<75k), garage-kept cosmetics, stock setup, thick maintenance files including updated upper/lower wiring harnesses and tba harness trade at about $5-6k, tops. Good quality w124s over 120k reach $4k if the harnesses are done and expect a $1k-2k discount if not.
Pre-facelift v8 w124s are lucky to break $2500 on a good day. It's no reflection on the cars, they're simply a completely unknown model with zero demand. The photos are great, and the car looks attractive–but asking $10k? This seller is on crack.
The following chart shows what these cars sell for at dealers auctions.
The advertised car is worth maybe $ 3.000.– on a GOOD day to an uninformed retail buyer.
The incorrect wheels and the awkward suspension setup are not helping either.
Anything over that is completely unrealistic and the seller is just dreaming.
