For me, the E39 BMW M5 is about as close as you get to the perfect vehicle. It checks all of the boxes. Loads of power, a manual transmission, sedan practicality with a touch of luxury and timeless good looks. About the only thing I could think of that is missing is all-wheel drive practicality, but depending on where you live, that might not be important. This M5 for sale in California is looks mean in black and has covered a scant 45,500 miles.

These E39 M5s are on the top of my list if I decide to move on from my Cooper S at some point. They just have that up to no good aura that I like in a car. More than likely I’d go for a dark color like our feature car and try and seek one out with under 50,000 miles. I’m just worried that by the time I’m ready to pull the trigger on one of these, they’ll be priced up into the stratosphere. The only thing that could hold them back is maintenance costs. Even taking that factor into consideration, the awesome qualities of this car shine through. These 400 horsepower beasts can’t hover around subcompact car money for long.

nicely presented E39…for a MY00 it is fully optioned…Executive Trim, sunshades, PDC, etc.
the wheels are still nice with minimal curb rash and the instrument cluster is the original with FULL pixels…now that is rare!..LOL
the exhaust however looks to be after market, looks like a TUBI to me,
the biggest issue here are the MAF’s & carbon build up…an expensive fix….and the build date will tell you if this M5 was done after the ring design was put into place…
otherwise if all checks out..this is a very very fair price IMHO as well kept/maintained e39’s are becoming harder to come by
