2006 Audi S4 25th Anniversary Quattro

During our recent “4WD Week” I wrote up a 2007 S4 DTM edition, a car that while attractive I felt was pretty overpriced. In fact, I said that even though it was a limited edition I didn’t think it was nearly as desirable as the 2006 run of 250 25th Anniversary of Quattro S4s. These S4s were really like a diet RS4, gaining suspension upgrades, revised exterior pieces and some special interior treatments, and importantly a revised rear sport differential that really transformed the car’s handling. Additionally, the limited S4s got the best looking wheels of the bunch, special Ronals that appeared on both the Ultrasport Titanium package for the A4 and on this car in normal silver. More than just a limited edition sticker and special color (I’m looking at you, Lime Rock Park edition M3), this car was a culmination of lots of little changes that made for a bridge model between the normal S4 and the RS4:

Audi has pioneered some great colors over the past two decades, and Avus Silver Pearl is one of my favorites. It’s such a warm color with lots of depth, yet stealthy and a bit more special than the run of the mill bright silver. The alloys are the perfect match for the look of this car, with actual undertones of the DTM series – unlike the split 7-spokes that adorned the actual DTM-edition cars. The body kit is a bit fussy if I’m honest and I could do without all the vents, but it’s a nod to the RS models and a subtle acknowledgement of the quattro GmbH build status. The two tone interior is also subtle but special, with carbon details to make any bluetooth-wearing businessman smile. While this car isn’t as special as an RS4, it’s a more practical and much more special S4 that could really add some sport to your daily commute – and with only 250 on the road, you’re not likely to see another soon. If you’re looking for a special daily driver that is semi-collectable, this may just be for you. The miles are higher given the year but not outlandish; figure value on this car in the high teens at best, but well under half the going rate of an RS4 leaves you plenty for mechanical repairs down the road.

Can we have a take back the keyboard day where we all exclusively use caps lock and make liberal use of the exclamation point (maybe even as a dual purpose exclamatory hyphen like this seller)? I think it would really raise awareness. There’s a sizeable demographic out there trying to sell cars and the only MO they have is a full font based guerrilla assault on our retinas. Don’t let your retinas and common sense be victims in 2014.
