The 993 is for many a favorite. Stylistically, it shows the culmination of 30 years of subtle changes and tweaks, because while it no longer wore the classic 911 body it undeniably clung to those roots. The proportions were just right, the weight remained reasonably low and the engine provided the unmistakable clatter that could only be produced by an air-cooled engine. As the last of the air-cooled 911s, the 993 is an icon of an icon. The 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL we featured last month is back up for auction. Long forgotten amidst other, more popular SL models, this roadster has finally started to see an uptick in values, with good ones reaching into solid six figure territory. Will this one meet its reserve this time around?

Comments closedFor all the air-cooled Porsches that we feature, there is still one outlier that is the ne plus ultra when it comes to P-cars for me. The 968 Club Sport. This was another one of those forbidden fruits to US customers, but a formula which enthusiasts copied in earnest by either cobbling together a few of the more performance oriented options available at the time, such as the M030 option package, or by way of the aftermarket. Out of the box, the Club Sport was ready to hit the track, with about 222 pounds shed from the curb weight by way of deletion of luxury trimmings and complimented with a more aggressive suspension setup. This Club Sport for sale in Maryland has been worked over a bit to make it even more fearsome for track days.

Comments closedUpon initial release of the 964 Turbo, Porsche had yet to fully develop a turbocharged version of the 964’s standard 3.6 liter flat-six and thus chose to retain the 3.3 liter turbocharged flat-six from the 930. By 1993, however, a turbocharged 3.6 liter flat-six was ready. With 360 hp being delivered to the rear wheels, these cars provided effortless acceleration and spine-tingling excitement packaged in a neat and beautiful design. But what if some buyers might want a little bit more? Enter the 3.6 Turbo S: a 385 hp rear-wheel-drive monster and one of the most sought after 911s in Porsche’s storied history. Less than 100 examples of the 3.6 Turbo S were produced through the Porsche Exclusive program and buyers had the choice of the standard wide-body Turbo design or they could choose a 968-derived Flatnose. The Slantnose was a popular option on the 930 throughout much of the ’80s and we come across them fairly frequently. The 3.6 Turbo S is another beast entirely. Few exist and they rarely come up for sale, but here we have one. A stunning Guards Red 1994 Porsche 911 3.6 Turbo S Flatnose with Champagne leather interior, located in Cleveland, that has seen a very reasonable 36,300 miles.

3 CommentsHave you ever wanted a Mk1 GTI? I have since about 6th grade. My 2.0’d Caddy is as close as I’ve gotten, but some day the original German hot hatch will inhabit my car barn (so will another Caddy). If the car barn ever happens, it would be a good indicator that I have the kind of money where I can drop $10k on a GTI and feel good about it. Considering how GTI prices have been creeping up these past few years, getting this one for that price suddenly seems reasonable. Seriously, start by looking at the undercarriage; it’s painfully immaculate. Then you pull back to the clean-but-unique exterior and tip your head in to a tastefully improved cabin, and you’re looking at a GTI that is unhyperbolically listed as “possibly best in state.” It might be the best period.
