1986 Mercedes-Benz 190D 5-speed manual

With gas prices on the rise again, consumers are once again turning their eye to more fuel efficient vehicles. Some people prefer the hybrid or electric route, but for me, I’ve always been a fan of the tried and true diesel engine. Mercedes-Benz was a pioneer in diesel powered passenger vehicles, with their first model, the 260D, appearing at the Berlin Motor Show in 1936. Fifty years on, and we find this car, the W201 190D with a 2.5 liter inline-5 diesel. The W201 was still rather new in the lineup for 1986, but with a diesel offering, it catered towards those who had grown to love the oil burners from Stuttgart. This example for sale in Texas appears well cared for and comes equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, helping to make the most of its 94 horsepower.

1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4

For a car that hasn’t changed much over fifty years, the 964 series Carrera 4 was a quantum leap in terms of 911 development. Now available with all-wheel drive, the integrated bumpers, new alloys and upgraded climate control brought this sports car up to levels of comfort sought by buyers in the new decade. This Carrera 4 for sale in Oregon looks sharp in Baltic Blue, one of the more restrained tones in what would be a period of diverse and exciting color options for Porsche.

1998 BMW Z3

The BMW Z3 got a grand start in life, appearing alongside the James Bond Character in the 1995 movie GoldenEye. It was a Z3 exactly as you see here, in Atlanta Blue, a color that still looks great to this day. But enthusiasts were left a bit wanting for more at its launch, as this sleek two-seater was initially powered by a 1.9 liter inline-4 cranking out 138 horsepower. A bit underwhelming for what was to be BMWs first mass market foray into the roadster category. In 1997, the cries were answered with the insertion of a six cylinder engine under the hood and an M variant the following year. With ever more powerful variants having appeared down the line, the initial four cylinder Z3s are a bit of a bargain and a solid choice for some summer thrills on a budget.

1987 Porsche 924S

After 1988, the Porsche 924 disappeared from the lineup altogether, leaving Porsche with a decidedly more upscale lineup until the arrival of the Boxster in 1998. Before the 924 exited stage right, the 924 evolved into the 924S for the 1986 through 1988 model years. With a detuned version of the Porsche 944’s 2.5 liter engine and upgraded suspension, Porsche was able to keep the price under $20,000 at the outset. Now, with news of Porsche developing a series of flat-4 engines, is another affordable Porsche soon to be in our midst? Until then, someone can sit back and enjoy this extremely well preserved, low mileage 924S for sale in Florida.
