2001 Porsche Boxster with 38k miles

$_57

There was much fanfare when the Porsche Boxster debuted, as this was the first clean sheet design since the introduction of the 928 twenty years prior. The 928 and 968 had just ceased production and in came this small roadster right before the air-cooled 911 bid adieu one year later upon the close of the 1998 model year. While some have derided the Boxster for being a bit soft in comparison to the 911, time has been fairly kind on these sports cars. Many of the earlier Boxsters are now fairly affordable, making them an attractive proposition in comparison to the usual sport coupe or hot hatch offerings out there. This 2001 Boxster for sale in Ohio comes from our reader John. It’s has the desirable 5-speed manual gearbox and was used by a fair weather toy by a local doctor.

2011 Audi S5

Auto show season is in full swing, and for the first time in my life I can’t remember being this unenthusiastic about the current lineup of new vehicles. The cars I came across at my local show that I could envision driving daily numbered less than ten. Sure, some may call me old fashioned, but styling across the board seems contrived these days and the amount of technology jammed into cars these days is too much for my tastes. However, there are some bright spots. One of my favorite new cars of recent memory is the Audi A5. This coupe embraces good clean design. Kick it up a notch for the S5 and you’ve got brawn under the hood to match the beauty. Add a wild color you say? Well, this Glut Orange S5 is sure to polarize opinions, but I love it.

If the 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300TE 4Matic we featured this week seemed a bit too lairy in terms of upkeep, how about this rear-drive 1995 E320 Estate for sale in Nebraska with similar mileage? These E class wagons have an uncanny way of blending class with durability at the same time and have an endearing aura about them. Every time I come across one on the street it’s like meeting up with an old friend.

Joe DiMaggio’s 1991 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL

$_57

Baseball season is fast approaching, with Spring Training just a few weeks away. For fans of America’s pastime, this particular 1991 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL is tied to a significant piece of the sport’s history. It was Old Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium in the summer of 1991, and one of the team’s greatest players, Joe DiMaggio, was on hand as it was the 50th anniversary of his 56 game hitting streak. That day, he did something rather out of character and treated the crowd to a speech. Afterwards, DiMaggio was presented this S class as a token of appreciation by the team. Now, almost 15 years after his death, this very car is up for sale in Arizona.

1969 Porsche 911S

I remember years ago my father recanting the story about how he almost bought a used Porsche 911T in the early 1970s, only for his better sense to kick in and find something a bit less expensive. Enter, then, the Fiat 124 Spider and the eternal nagging of what might have been. Frequently I consider what a great investment a car like this would have been, if it were kept in the family all these years. Then again, considering a car like this as an investment would have missed the point at the time, as we would have used it as intended. Sure to satisfy that sports car hunger, this 1969 911S for sale in New York has benefitted form a bare metal respray and a sympathetic restoration.
