2002 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe

As popular as they may be, silver cars are rarely exciting. Transform the shade, darkening it just slightly, from silver to one of the various grays on the market and suddenly you have something that can be far more interesting. We still wouldn’t call it exciting, but it becomes much easier to appreciate. Wrap that color around a 415 hp twin-turbocharged 911 and you have yourself a bit of a sleeper, or at least as close to a sleeper as an iconic sports car can be. The 996 may never be a much loved 911, but in turbocharged form it’s undeniably a fantastic performer and that lack of love simply means that they can be had for a much lower price than their comparable brethren. Here we have a 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe, located in Oklahoma, with 51,000 miles on it.

1983 Porsche 911SC Cabriolet

As temperatures continue to be bitterly cold, what better time to look at a convertible! At the very least this will allow those of us mired in winter to daydream of the sun and wind hitting our face rather than ice, snow, and the ever prevalent road salt. I’ve featured numerous Targas during these cold months and for a while the Targa was the only open-top option Porsche made available for the 911. It was not until 1983, with the model we see here, that the full open-top 911 experience could be had by Porsche buyers. An ’83 Cabriolet is an interesting model to pursue as it possesses the talking point trivia as the first and only MY 911SC available as a Cabriolet, while also sitting in a very nice spot on the 911 value-curve. Interesting to talk about, top-down driving, and stout engines promising many miles of motoring enthusiasm: always an excellent combination. Here we have a Guards Red 1983 Porsche 911SC Cabriolet, located in Memphis, with around 73,000 miles on it.

Coupe Week: 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort

As we near the end of Coupe Week we’ll take a look at one of the ultimate coupes Porsche has produced. The 959 needs little introduction from me; upon its release it was one of the most jaw-dropping technological marvels buyers would have the opportunity of purchasing. The most obvious contrast to the 959, of course, would be the Ferrari F40. Two different answers from two different marques to the need for a halo car. Like most things Porsche, the 959 is both a showcase of performance, but also refinement and technology that pushed the envelope of how we would even conceive of a supercar. With twin-turbocharging and all-wheel drive the 959 also foreshadowed many of the technological innovations to come for the 911 and paved the way for much of the 911’s continued success. It goes without saying that these are extraordinarily rare to come across for sale so when one does it is always worth a look. Here we have a Silver 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort with Black leather interior and a mere 16,500 kilometers on the clock.

1957 Porsche 356A Speedster

While an excellent Porsche, of any era, tends to marry a combination of blistering performance with a high degree of refinement, it is many of the no-frills examples that command the greatest attention. One of the earliest of those was the 356 Speedster. As Porsche’s first production vehicle the 356 was around for nearly twenty years before being replaced by the 911 and the Speedster remains one of the most iconic variants produced. Only available for a short 4 years the Speedster served the American market as a lower-cost spartan alternative to the standard 356, while also providing weekend racers a model they could use at the track. Belying its short production run, the Speedster was quite successful in its early years and Porsche has revived the iconic moniker a few times for the 911, but it’s always tough to top the original. The example we see here is a Black on Black 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster, located in Houston, with 95,898 miles on it.

Coupe Week: 1979 Porsche 911SC Coupe

Rare-color 911s at times seem to exist in their own world, a reality that has become especially prevalent as the air-cooled-911 market has grown substantially. The questions with which one must always grapple are “how much do I really care about color and how much am I willing to pay for it?” And of course there is also the matter of the long-term gamble betting on far elevated values down the road. This all brings us to the car we see here: a Light Green (Lindgrün) Metallic 1979 Porsche 911SC Coupe, located in the Netherlands, with contrasting Beige leather interior and 125,975 km on the clock (78,277 miles). This is a really lovely color combination only available for a couple of years at the end of the ’70s so it certainly qualifies as rare, but with an asking price around $70K the seller definitely is looking to capitalize on that rarity.
