While there have been a few mint condition 190E 2.3-16s appear on this site, the garden variety 2.6 is more of a rarity these days. Especially with mileage this low. Originally introduced in 1986, the 2.6 liter inline six gave the W201 chassis the legs it needed to compete in the upper end of the compact luxury segment. The car we see here on eBay is the last of the breed, as 1994 saw the introduction of the W202 C class and a whole new naming scheme for the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
The seller states:
One owner bought new with 27 tested miles, all Mercedes Benz service records are from the dealership since new. These include oil changes, all filters, flushes, brakes, rotors, and the transmission was serviced as recommended at the dealership 21 pages documenting the service.
This 190E 2.6 has only been maintained at a Mercedes Benz new car dealership with is rare for a ’93. The title was never stamped with a lien it was bought new with cash. Sticker priced according to the original window sticker was $36,175 and the mileage was noted at 20mpg city 25mpg highway. It has the optional wiper listed at $305 and the anti theft system listed at $570.
The vehicle prep center was Chicago with its port of origin being Baltimore shipping # 2200. This exceptionally clean Mercedes Benz has been garage kept and driven in only PA summer weather. The owner stayed in Florida during the winters and had other autos in Florida to drive leaving this in the heated garage in pa all winter. This explains the low miles of only about 4,000 miles a summer.
The rims have never been painted or touched a curb a rarity especially for a woman driver. And the back seat I don’t even think has ever been used, no pets were in this Benz nor were it ever smoked in. head liner and all are just perfect. I have spent time in California, I’ve purchased and driven cars in California and this car is just as nice underneath as any car from California. Naturally everything looks like new.
There are only a few chips and small scratches and a wear spot worn through the material on the interior pillar between front and rear doors. I was driving this car for a couple of weeks and is it ever a pleasure to drive. It has lots of highway power and it will cruise with anything and handle better than most new cars built today. The black paint is black not any kind of metallic and the lower is a nickel as shown in the pictures.
Towards the end of college, my father had a 1992 Diamant Blau (Diamond Blue) 2.6. My mother had located the car for sale in the classified ads in the Washington Post with 102,000 miles on it. The car was extremely well taken care of and it made it all the more painful when it was totaled (not his fault) in an accident. I just sent my father this auction, as my parents live in PA. This might just be the ticket to replace his beloved 2.6. I miss that car dearly, as well. If you have never driven a 2.6, I highly recommend it. In my opinion, the combination of handling, comfort, size and seamless inline six power was perfected by Mercedes-Benz in this model.
