The Volkswagen Cabrio was the company car of sororities everywhere and the dream vehicle for every high school girl out there. It was also a car that Volkswagen got a lot of mileage out of, with the Mk1 chassis living on in open roofed duty until 1993, and the Mk3 living on well after Mk4 production commenced. The Cabrio exited stage right in 2002, and Volkswagen would be without a convertible until the Eos came along in 2006. This was a complete rethink for the drop top Volkswagen, as a folding hardtop was now in place of the cloth roof, adding greater all weather practicality but increasing the cost significantly. North American customers could order their Eos with the 2.0 liter TSI four cylinder or VR6 engine, mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DSG automatic.
This Eos for sale outside of Philadelphia is looking rather beachy in its light blue metallic color and has the popular four cylinder/DSG gearbox combination.

For our readers, the Eos probably isn’t high on the shopping list when it comes to drop tops, but the car does have its merits. They have held their value pretty well and do offer a the luxury of a hardtop with four seats for a lot less than some of its German competition. One factoid that pleases me is that the Eos is that it is built at the AutoEuropa Plant in Palmela, Portugal, just south of Lisbon. As a person of Portuguese heritage, I feel as if I’m coming across a kindred spirit each time I pass one on the road.
