1987 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16

DSC01187_zpsvp3ijcn8

It was only a matter of time for 2.3-16 prices to follow E30 M3 values. To a lesser extent of course with the dominance of the M3 in almost every aspect; most importantly overall victories on the track. Nonetheless, the 2.3-16 homologation specials are still just that: special. Especially in this condition. In this case a picture (or dozens) really are worth a thousand words. This example is very cleanly preserved and prepared. Bidders are ready to buy with the current reserve met at $22k and climbing, with a very active 125+ bids thus far. If the auction proceeds to completion, we’ll witness a great bidding war considering the show doesn’t end until tomorrow night. Good luck to buyers and seller!

Feature Listing: 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet

There is no doubt that modern day Porsches are impressive machines, with power and performance almost second to none. But when I scan the current lineup, there’s something missing. I’d never deny these are great machines, but I almost feel like there’s a bit of a carefree nature that was apparent in Porsches from the past. Case in point, this 1997 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet for sale from our friends at Automobili Limited right outside of Philadelphia. The owner of the dealership, Tony Kasser, was kind enough to invite me for a visit this summer and it was an impressive collection of enthusiast machines, mostly of German origin. This 911 Cabriolet is another in a long line of classic Porsches in their collection. In Guards Red over Cashmere leather with a 6-speed manual gearbox, this is a great way to enjoy one of the last of the air-cooled 911s.

1981 Mercedes-Benz 280E

Yesterday, we featured a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300TD, it’s diesel engine being a rarity for US market W124 estates. Today, we have this 1981 Mercedes-Benz 280E, with it’s petrol six-cylinder engine equally as rare for US market W123s. Whether it’s a diesel or petrol lump under the hood, less than 85,000 miles is not much for these cars and the condition certainly appears in line with the mileage. If you’ve always desired a little more speed in your W123, this would be one to scope out.

2003 BMW 330i ZHP

While the four-door M3 has been with us for the last two generations of 3 series, you were out of luck if you wanted an M-badged 3 series four-door when it came to the 1999-2005 E46 3er. Or were you? For a short while, BMW offered the ZHP package on E46 sedans, coupes and convertibles. More aggressive cams and modified engine management delivered 235 horsepower. Along with a modified suspension setup, this was a bit of an M3-lite. Whether it’s a standard or ZHP variant, it’s hard to come across mint condition E46 sedans these days, but this example for sale in Maryland looks to have led a pampered life, with under 60,000 miles on the clock.

1996 BMW 328i Individual

I find this car both exciting and perplexing. This comes in part from the nature of the car; well, honestly I find most of the BMW Individual ordered cars to be pretty cool. But this one had me scratching my head just a little bit. It wasn’t over the color; Daytona Violet is one pretty awesome color and suits the E36 pretty well overall, I think. The transmission is the right box, and the Dove Grey leather compliments the car well. No, the question comes down to one of price – and for once it’s not a complaint about EAG’s asking price but specifically the original purchase price. Why? Well, in order to spec your 328i as this one was, you’d be paying more than a M3 that was available for minimal charge in the same color to get it. Huh?
