The awesome looking 4-speed 280SE from 1977 that I wrote up in late July has reappeared on the marketplace, having not sold the first time around. This car appears to be really unique and well presented and would certainly turn heads at any show. I especially love the AMG-spec wheels and Euro-goodies that slim down and beef up the S-Class just a bit. At $12,000, this seems like a good deal for a great vintage Benz:
Low mileage, but less desirable, models of the 911 always find themselves in an interesting place on the Porsche market. Generally, such cars are unloved because of engine issues or styling issues, or in the case with the car here: both. Here we have a 1977 Porsche 911S Coupe, located in Los Angeles, with just 43,000 miles on it. As the first models with the redesigned body with impact bumpers, the 1974-1977 911 was always going to struggle relative to its predecessors, but it’s the engine issues that really plagued these cars, dissuading potential buyers and holding down values. After all, the 911SC and 3.2 Carrera that immediately followed, each of which shares very similar styling to a ’77 911S, is well loved amongst 911 fans. But those models both have stout engines that easily reach into the six figures. A ’77 911S can be a very good car though, if all of the appropriate steps are taken ahead of time.
The Volkswagen Scirocco was one of those cars for me that felt like we didn’t know what we had until it was gone. Now I find myself looking at the new generation Scirocco longingly when I find myself across the pond, wondering if those of us stateside may get treated to this sharp looking two-door sports coupe. Sure, it’s based on Golf mechanicals, but much like the original Mk1 Scirocco and the Karmann Ghia that preceded it, these cars were all about style being applied to rather lowly underpinnings. This Mk1 Scirocco for sale in Connecticut has some issues, but is a pretty solid example that could use a little TLC.
looks to be a downright gem, on its third owner with its original engine and gearbox and benefitting from an interior retrim. They don’t get much nicer, or OEM, than this.
I’ve said before that the W116 is a love/hate car for me; most times, I see them and they just look like any tired old Benz; a bit out of proportion and over-bumpered. But then I see a great example, like some of the Euro-spec 6.9 models I’ve written up in the last few weeks, and I get a bit giddy. Though not really my dream car by any means, I can imagine cruising up to a Cars and Coffee event, or a German Car Day somewhere in my massive Benz. That vision is helped when I see one in full European trim; the slim bumper lines and cleaned up light clusters make it so much better. But while most of my adoration is levied upon those 6.9 models, this car might just change that. Compared the largest engine fitted in the W116 6.9, this car seems downright puny with only a 2.8 liter inline-6. What helps that, though, is the manual transmission and some of the missing luxuries that help lighten the load. Top it off with some AMG bits, and my does this car look tasty!
The 1977 Volkswagen Rabbit with 2,000 miles we featured a month ago is back up for sale, with a lowered Buy It Now price of $7,700. Is this possibly one of the lowest mileage, unmolested Mk1s out there?
