1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet – M491

509

I’ll continue with the Cabriolet theme, though unlike yesterday’s car which I specifically featured because it was a Cabriolet this one appeals to me for additional reasons and that it happens to be a Cabriolet simply is coincidence. This Cabriolet equipped with the M491 package offers many of the stylistic and handling upgrades of the 911 Turbo, but retains the less highly strung and more maintenance friendly naturally-aspirated 3.2-liter flat-six of the standard Carrera. While accurate production numbers for the M491-equipped cars have been notoriously difficult to pin down for their six years of production (1984-1989) these cars are certainly more rare than a standard Carrera. It does appear that the option was prevalent on Coupes early on and then shifted heavily toward the Cabriolet once the actual Turbo was again made available in the US. Still, as a performance variant the M491-equipped 911s have become highly sought after, especially for the later years that also came with the G50 5-speed transmission.

1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

We are entering convertible season and probably the time of year when many crave open-top motoring the most. There is probably not a shade of color I enjoy more on a Cabriolet than the various blues that are out there. These shades provide the sort of lightness and brightness that goes hand in hand with sunny motoring and combine to create an excellent atmosphere to match the sky above. Here we have the rare triple blue: an Iris Blue Metallic 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, located in Arizona, with matching blue leather interior and dark blue wheels that is on auction with no reserve. This is not a perfect car by any means as I think there are a few questions to be answered, but as a driver it looks in very good shape with very reasonable mileage.

Coupe Week: 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera

$_4 (1)

As we begin our coupe week here at GCFSB we’ll start on the Porsche side with one of the examples that still falls into a spot on the market that is accessible to a wide range of buyers. The 3.2 Carrera isn’t the exceptional value it once was, but typically an earlier model, i.e. pre-G50 transmission, like this Indischrot 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera, located in Arizona, will still provide good bang for your buck and can serve as an excellent introduction to the 911 in general. With more than 163K miles this 911 certainly appears to have lead a full life, but if the mechanicals have been shown proper care during that time then it should still be capable of providing many more miles of excellent motoring.

1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

We’re going to take a step back from the heights we traversed a couple days ago to return to 911s that fall much more within the realm of cars that reside within reach. Of course, the beauty of the 911 is that the basic genes that make models like the Carrera RS and Turbo 3.6 so highly sought after can still be found in an entirely standard Carrera. And for the buyer who desires a car to take on some back roads and wring everything out of it these are actually the cars that can elicit the most pleasure. So here we turn to a rare Granite Green Metallic 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, located in Arizona, with 92,129 miles on it.

1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

If the Speedster from earlier today was a bit out of your price range, or perhaps you’re more interested in owning a 911 to *gasp* drive it, then the car featured here could make for a nice opportunity. Here we have a Black 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, located in Rhode Island, with the always lovely contrast of a Burgundy leather interior. Sadly, we get very few pictures of that interior, but what we can see looks in very good shape. Driver-quality 3.2 Carreras aren’t the excellent values they used to be, but are still attainable for somewhat reasonable sums and an example like this, with fewer than 100K miles, should still have a very long motoring life ahead of it.
