1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

We’re going to take a step back from the heights we traversed a couple days ago to return to 911s that fall much more within the realm of cars that reside within reach. Of course, the beauty of the 911 is that the basic genes that make models like the Carrera RS and Turbo 3.6 so highly sought after can still be found in an entirely standard Carrera. And for the buyer who desires a car to take on some back roads and wring everything out of it these are actually the cars that can elicit the most pleasure. So here we turn to a rare Granite Green Metallic 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, located in Arizona, with 92,129 miles on it.

When shopping for value a 1987 Carrera is not typically the best place to begin one’s search. As the first year the Carrera came equipped with the G50 5-speed transmission sellers typically look to extract a premium and there are always collectors willing to pay a bit more as well. On the other hand, once purchased there is also a good chance that these will offer a better return in the future than an earlier 3.2 Carrera or 911SC. If I’m honest, I would have preferred this Carrera to be fitted with a contrasting interior color rather than sticking with Granite Green throughout, but it’s a lovely exterior color that we do not see often and that’s more my interest in this car here. This is by no means a pristine example as it appears to be in need of some cosmetic work, but with bidding currently at $34,700 it does not appear to be bid on as a pristine example either. Assuming no major mechanical issues are lurking this 911 should have plenty of life left in it so even though the reserve remains unmet hopefully a prospective bidder and the seller can reach an accord.

About 10 maybe 12 years ago I had an 87 Granite Green Targa. Mine had that drab interior except my seats at cream colored piping which broke up the dull look. This looks like a nice example of a G50 coupe for what may not be a silly dollars. I guess 50 is the new 40? in g50 land. I always liked the Granite Green. The door cards are obviously not original. Makes me wonder why they were swapped? Former track car, that someone reinstalled most of the original interior they kept?

Granite Green is a beautiful exterior color…come to think of it – is there any color these 911’s don’t look good in? Agree interior is fugly – and door cards create questions.

RPM … It appears the mirrors have those bra type covers on them which happen to have crests on them… fugly.

Ah Granite Green, my favorite of the oddball 911 colors. I agree that the interior could benefit from some contrast but it’s still quite the enticing package. Especially given that it hasn’t left the area in which it was originally purchased. Arizona, particularly the Scottsdale area is always a good zone to be looking for cars in given the average age of the population. Lotta nice cars that weren’t driven hard out there.
