1985 Mercedes-Benz 300D with 22k miles

After setting eyes on this low mileage 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300D for sale in New Jersey, I thought to myself “this car embodies everything I used to love about Mercedes.” If you asked me right now to sound off the current lineup, I’d struggle to name every model and trim variation, such is the expanse of the product portfolio and my general indifference towards SUVs from any manufacturer. The W123’s life came to a close when there was a fairly simple lineup, although one which expanded with the introduction of the W201 190 class. Few thought the W123, with its larger than life reputation, could be successfully superseded, but the W124 E-class did an admirable job of building an image all its own. Still, however, the W123 is revered amongst the Mercedes faithful with many original and restored examples roaming the streets today. If you’re looking for the best of the best, though, this example pretty much takes the cake.

1985 Mercedes-Benz 300D

A few days ago, we had an interesting comment from one of our regular readers, Aaron, with regards to the clean 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300SE. He had mentioned about considering this late eighties S-class as a replacement for his wife’s C300, which will eventually be turned in due to the lease. Have Mercedes’ gotten so bad that enthusiasts are looking to yesteryear for engineering excellence or were the Mercedes of yore just that good? Or are some people, myself included, sick and tired of fifty million electronic gadgets and gizmos in a car that can go wrong at any minute? Whatever the case may be, some of Mercedes’ best came out of the 1970s and 1980s, the W123 included. This 300D for sale in Texas represents the final year for the W123 production run, a car that carried on the tradition of safety, engineering and luxury for the Mercedes-Benz brand for a decade spanning the 1970s and 1980s.

1981 Mercedes-Benz 300D

Ah the W123 Mercedes-Benz. Always a favorite here at GCFSB and a favorite, no doubt, of many of our readers. With about a decade of production and a number of engines and model variants to choose from, there’s almost one W123 for everyone. However, certain models, especially late model estates, have been gaining serious traction in the marketplace. I believe it’s a combination of fuel economy and nostalgia for the rock solid build quality of Mercedes-Benzes of yore that is driving this craze. However, in between, there are some often overlooked models that can still be had for enthusiasts on a budget. This 1981 300D for sale in California is one such example and it’s a nice one, having covered under 60,000 miles during its life and on offer for around the price of what a new Nissan Versa will run you.

1959 Mercedes-Benz 300d Cabriolet

The Type 300 was the top of the range for Mercedes-Benz in the 1950s, a symbol of what this company was capable of but few were able to afford in the years immediately after World War II. One of the most impressive models was the four-door cabriolet version, known to some as the “Adenauer.” This was due to the fact that it was the ride of choice for the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Konrad Adenauer. Towards the end of the production run, the 300d was revealed, sporting a detuned version of the fuel-injected inline-6 found in the 300SL sports car. This was a car for the rich and famous, a car that was on par with what Rolls Royce had to offer in its day. It would eventually be succeeded by the 600 Grosser Mercedes, which would carry the torch of the über Benz into the 1980s. This 300d is one of 65 ever produced and is currently on offer in Ohio.
