1994 Porsche 928GTS

It’s been a while since I’ve written up a 928 and I always enjoy revisiting these wonderful Porsche GTs. While the 928 finally is starting to show its age, it’s remarkable to consider how long the basic design had survived even by the time the model was discontinued and thus a bit of age at this point remains a testament to the seemingly timeless nature of that original design. The example here comes from the final model variant, the GTS, which continued the 928’s gradual evolution, smoothing some of the lines while showcasing a wider rear. Power came through a 5.4 liter V8 that directed 350 hp to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. Sadly, this one has the auto. The 928 was always a high tech and pricey vehicle for its time and as such finding one that has been well maintained is important for avoiding some unpleasant surprises. This one appears in very nice shape all around.

1993 Porsche 928GTS

$_4 (1)

I decided to do something a little different this morning and take a look at this 1993 Porsche 928GTS. This is not the ordinary, low mileage gem that we tend to feature, but a GTS that wears some battle scars and has covered an impressive 140,000 miles. It’s no secret these cars are well engineered and can go the distance, but with values on the rise for these grand touring machines, collectors are coveting them to a point these will start approaching air-cooled 911 Turbo money. Are you brave enough to take on a high mileage shark that needs a little TLC? Read further…

1993 Porsche 928GTS – REVISIT

The 1993 Porsche 928GTS we featured last September has cropped up for sale once again, the asking price unchanged. Of all the 928s, the market for the GTS is strong, especially when equipped with the manual gearbox. Will this minter of a V8 Porsche find a home this time around?

1993 Porsche 928GTS 5-speed

Just when I thought I’ve seen every conceivable color combination on a 1990s era 928, along comes this car. Behold this Wimbeldon Green Metallic 928GTS with a midnight green leather interior. Equipped with a 5-speed gearbox, this one was ordered new from Holbert’s Porsche, not far from my neck of the woods outside of Philadelphia. If you aren’t familiar with this dealership, this was the one owned by the father of Al Holbert, five time champion of the IMSA Camel GT series. This 928GTS was owned by a Porsche Club of America member and it’s not a vehicle appropriate for shrinking violets.

1993 Porsche 928GTS

We are approaching two decades since the last 928 rolled off the Porsche assembly line, a span of time not much longer than the duration of the model’s run. From 1978 to 1995 the 928 served as Porsche’s flagship Grand Tourer and early on it was assumed to be the car that would remain the flagship vehicle of the marque altogether. The success of the 911 obviously changed that, but the 928 still lives on as Porsche’s only, and last (at least to now), front-engined V8 coupe. These cars possessed a uniqueness for the brand that has always set them apart with timeless styling that showed only incremental changes during the 17 years of its existence. As the last model variant the 928GTS featured a 5.4 liter V8 producing 350 hp surrounded by a sleek and lithe body that promised to transport you in a great deal of style at a great deal of speed. The example we see here is an automatic-transmission 1993 Porsche 928GTS, located in Colorado Springs, with just 44,000 miles on it.
