2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet

I’ve spent a bit of time back in the world of air-cooled Porsches lately so let’s drift back into the realm of modern 911s to take a look at this 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet. In recent years Porsche has taken to offering nearly every conceivable combination of model variants and the GTS more or less completed that picture for the 997. The GTS, in some ways, can be thought of as a Carrera S with the power pack, but for less money. For many that in itself might be the crucial selling point. But the GTS provided more: it included center-locking wheels, Alcantara seat inserts and steering wheel for the interior – though the example here appears to have gone for an all-leather interior – and the wider rear of the Carrera 4, all in addition to those extra horses provided by the power pack. The one we see here even benefits from having retained the very desirable 6-speed manual over the 7-speed PDK. With a MSRP exceeding $110K for the Cabriolet, the sub-$60K asking price here represents quite a discount over new for a car that’s only a few years old. At nearly 39K miles, the mileage isn’t low for its age, but if it has been carefully maintained that shouldn’t be something to be overly concerned over.

1993 Porsche 968 Cabriolet

As much as I’ve always loved the Porsche 968 Cabriolet, it’s a bit of an odd duck in the annals of Porsche history. However, I’m not the only one who is attracted to this car. In addition to the folks over at flüssig magazine who preach the gospel of the transaxle Porsche, former GCFSB writer Aaron had a few things to say about his desire to own a 968 Cabriolet in a conversation I was having with him yesterday evening. “Any Porsche made after ’98 is crap, ’80s 944s, 928s and 924s are all a bit dated. The 968 represents a ’90s era Porsche that the every man can afford.” Some may not necessarily agree with his sentiment, but having owned a 2000 Boxster, it must have had some affect on Aaron’s view of modern Porsches. If you share our love of 968s, check out this 968 Cabriolet for sale in Florida is one of two 6-speed examples painted in Amethyst Metallic.

1998 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

As a general rule final model year cars always hold a particular cachet and command a premium over their predecessors. That isn’t mind-blowing news or anything, but what I suppose we can wonder is just how much of a premium makes sense. That is more or less where I am at with this car, a Guards Red over Cashmere Beige 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet located in New York with 28,822 miles on it. In a way I’m at a similar crossroads to my feelings on the two ultra-low-mileage and rare color 911s I’ve posted over the past weeks. They were otherwise standard Carreras and as such I wonder how high they may ever go – or at least their ceiling over the next decade. This one seems to be banking on the final model year designation, which of course in this case is compounded by it being the last air-cooled model as well, to reach its high asking price. There is no doubt that for those seeking the full open-top experience in an air-cooled 911 that an example like this one serves as a good place to start. It’s the most modern and refined air-cooled 911 available and the 993’s lines seem to work a little better with the Cabriolet shape than on some other 911s.

1992 BMW 318i Convertible

Every day I log onto Facebook, I see a few people I know out on the West Coast of the US complaining about the weather this winter. However, it’s been unseasonably warm on the East Coast of the US. To all those on the left coast complaining, I say it’s about time I had a break from the usual. I’ve had a lifetime of bad winter weather. And with warm temperatures comes the desire for drop top motoring. This 1992 318i Convertible for sale is an original California vehicle closing in on 200,000 miles. The great pictures in this ad really do a great job of showcasing just how well-preserved of an E30 this is.

1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet – M491

I’ve had my eye on the market for the 3.2 Carrera of late after coming across a slew of them with very high prices. We’re seeing similar movements, though with more actual sales, with the market for the Porsche 930 as well. The car we see here, a Silver Metallic 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet with the M491 (Turbo-look) option package and 109,300 miles, walks a line between both of these worlds, but right now is avoiding the very high asking prices of those others. The pricing phenomenon with the 3.2 Carrera seems down primarily to some very-low-mileage examples coming up for sale, which obviously won’t really have much bearing on this one. We should keep in mind though that as an ’87 MY Carrera this M491-equipped 911 also has the G50 5-speed transmission and we don’t see quite as many of these around. These factors all combine to make this a pretty desirable 911 and if the condition is as the seller describes it should have plenty of life left in it.
