1991 Saab 900 Convertible

By the the 1990s rolled around, the Saab 900 was getting a bit long in the tooth. With a recent investment from General Motors, a replacement for Saab’s venerable model was on the way, but the old 900 still had a bit of fight left in it. The 900 Convertible debuted in 1986 and quickly became a favorite of yuppies and otherwise well-heeled individuals, especially in coastal regions of the US. Amongst the Convertibles, one of the most sought after examples is the one like we see here for sale in Pennsylvania: the ones painted in Monte Carlo Yellow. Just over 300 examples of the 900 Convertible in this color made their way to the US, with under 900 produced in total. Want something unique to go topless in this summer? Look no further…

1997 Mercedes-Benz SL500

With late model Mercedes-Benz R107 SL prices on the move, the next logical choice for collectors on a budget to move towards would be that car’s predecessor, the R129 SL that debuted in 1990. These SLs were a major step forward in terms of luxury, technology and safety after near two decade production run of its predecessor. The model range saw a change in naming language in 1994 and a refresh in 1998. This 1997 SL500 falls squarely in the middle of the production run, with the popular 5.0 liter V8 under the hood and painted in the rather uncommon hue of Moonstone Gray Pearl.

1962 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet

The original Volkswagen Beetle is one of those curious cars that leads two lives. Devised as bare bones transportation and used by some as such, the car has also been the base for some impressive restorations. Some people like to take the route and modify with various Porsche bits while others prefer the dune buggy approach. And some like to go for the Cal look, popular ever since Beetle production was in full swing. This restored 1962 Cabriolet for sale in Pennsylvania in Gulf Blue looks sharp sitting on wider tires with deep dish wheels and is on offer just in time for the warmer weather about to hit on the East Coast.

1993 Mercedes-Benz 300CE-24 Cabriolet 5-speed manual

The W124 Mercedes-Benz E-class convertible isn’t exactly what you would consider a sporting drive. It’s a thoroughly competent cruiser and can handle itself in the twisties, but this is a car meant to cosset you as you motor, top-down and enjoy the passing scenery at a more relaxed pace. It is, simply, a car to be seen in. Our reader Walker spotted this imported 1993 300CE-24 Cabriolet equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, one of a handful that were equipped as such. Imported in 2001 and brought up to US specs, it’s available in Richmond, Virginia with just over 100,000 miles on the clock.

2002 Mercedes Benz SL500 Convertible

It’s hot down here in Los Angeles right now, like middle of summer hot and that means a whole lot of cars hitting the road with the top down. There are a number of cars that I associate with LA whose roof’s have been liberated, the Lamborghini Gallardo, Maserati Gran Turismo, Hertz Mustang/Camaro just to name a few. However none of them embody the vibe of the City Of Angels like the Mercedes Benz SL500 convertible does. From a group of gal pals cruising down Sunset Blvd to the media mogul retiree racing to the golf course, this car oozes Los Angeles cool.

The R129 chassis lived a good long life, the object of desire for dentists, producers, athletes and children like myself from 1989 until 2002. Just think about that for a second, this car remained popular and relatively visually unchanged from Bush I to Bush II, that’s damn impressive. Here we have a very clean example with just over 86k on the clock that’s currently located in a place much like Los Angeles, just with humidity and crazier people, you know, Florida.
