2000 BMW M Roadster

Small car and big engine: the classic formula to putting a huge grin on the motorists face. BMW nailed this formula when they decided to unleash the boffins at BMW M GmbH on the Z3 roadster back in 1998. The M Roadster as it came to be known gave this small convertible a real masculine tone, offering a big horsepower jump and upgraded suspension and brakes to match. If there ever was a car born to do donuts, it is this pint-sized, rear-drive machine.

1999 BMW M Coupe

Colors are a fixation with me when I go to pick out a new ride. Oftentimes, the louder the better. In some cases, subtle hues will suit me just fine. When it comes to BMWs, it’s hard to beat Alpinweiss (Alpine White), but runner up to that in terms of desirability, at least for me, is Estorilblau (Estoril Blue). This color takes its name from the coast of Portugal that lies a stones throw from Lisbon, where the Tagus river meets the Atlantic and which the nearby racing circuit takes its name. I was fortunate enough to spend time on the beaches there for part of my Springtime holiday. As I peered out to the ocean, I could see the richness of the color in the water that has graced many a vehicle from Munich. One M car that is particularly suited to this color is the M Coupe, such as this example for sale in Arizona that was brought to our attention by our reader Ry.

This extremely rare and very fun to drive BMW M Coupe is truly the ultimate driving machine. This beauty was only used as a weekend car by both the previous owner and the current owner. Lovingly maintained with all service records available. Excellent condition with only 2 minor flaws, the scratch above the right rear wheel well and the small piece of faded leather on the drivers seat from the driver sliding in and out of the vehicle. Upgraded to aftermarket Dinon suspesion to enhance the amazing handling ability this car already has. Kelley Blue Book on this car is about $22,000. We have a baby on the way in December and need a car that seats more than 2! Sad to see it go.

This M Coupe has the earlier S52 motor with 240 horsepower. Nearing 100,000 miles, this is certainly a more accessible way into this purposeful sports car, lest you want to pay around $30,000 for a later, low mileage example with the more powerful S54 lump under the hood. Some may prefer the stock wheels, but I think these aftermarket units lend an air of individuality to the package and give it more of an aggressive stance. Like the E30 M3 and certain 911s, this is one of those cars that is doubtful to lose any value in the near future, as collectors have recognized just how good they really are.

2002 BMW M Coupe sunroof delete

The BMW M Coupe has become the darling of the hardcore Bimmer enthusiast, providing a lot of power in a small package that, in the words of Car and Driver “makes you do bad things.” In 2001, the original E36/8 M Coupe was given a heart transplant in the form of the S54 engine, a 3.2 liter inline-6 pumping out 315 horsepower. While it only offered 15 more pound-feet of torque than the outgoing S52 motor, the upper limits of the rev range was where this new engine came alive, providing addictive amounts of power at higher RPMs. This particular M Coupe for sale in Maryland is very rare, as it is a sunroof delete model, adding even a bit more sporting flair to an already mental package.

I am pleased to offer this beautiful 2002 S54 BMW M Coupe in Titanium Silver over Black leather. 1 of 5 produced. Rare Sunroof-Delete Model and very desirable S54 engine. This coupe is nearly flawless, has spent its entire life in the hands of a collector, and has always been rested in an indoor garage. The odometer shows just over 50k miles, with very little wear on the interior or exterior. All VIN stickers are present and the body has never seen any paint or body work – 100% original. The coupe smells, drive, and looks brand new. The interior is a 9.5 out of 10, with only the very pickiest eyes noticing any wear on the driver seat or shift knob. The exterior is a 9.5 out of 10, with only one or two very small scratches or rock chips from driving (only noticeable from 12 inches away). The right rear wheel has a few nicks. The car has been maintained properly since new and comes with fresh fluids that include:

1. Oil change (Fully Synthetic Lubro Moly)
2. Brand new Good Year tires
3. Brand new OEM brake pads & rotors.
4. Coolant Flush
5. Brake Fluid Flush
6. Rear Differential and Manual Transmission Flush.

Again, the car is literally flawless and all options and accessories work as they should. There are no stories with this Coupe and is ready for a new owner. Detailed pictures can be found here:

Unless you go for a high mileage one, any M Coupe with under 75,000 miles these days is going to be fairly pricey, especially one with the S54 motor. Call it the E30 effect if you’d like. While over $32,000 may sound pricey, we’re probably not far off the mark, especially if any collectors out there have been searching high and low for an S54 without the sunroof. One of our feature rides, a 2001 M Coupe sold for $29,000 back in February. That car had 67,000 miles on it at the time. Given that comparison, I’d suspect the $30,000 mark is about the norm these days for a clean S54 engined M Coupe with low miles.

2002 BMW Z3 3.0 vs. 2000 BMW M Coupe

Given that it is wagon week, I was torn whether to include the two following Bimmers as examples of the breed. The M Coupe and Z3 Coupe do cut a bit of a shooting brake profile, but these are unique sports cars that were a creation not by committee, but rather, outright enthusiasts. The M variants of these three-doors are getting a bit on the pricey side, but the 3.0 liter Z3 Coupe offers lively performance at a lesser price. So which one would you choose? First, let’s look at the relatively rare Z3 Coupe.

This has been a really great car, excellent performance with less cost and maintenance than an M Coupe. Serviced at a local independent Mercedes/BMW shop.

Recent Maintenance:

The car has been maintained properly with the following most recent service items.
1. Oil change
4. Coolant Flush
5. Brake Fluid Flush
6. Rear Differential and Manual Transmission Flush.

At the price, this M Coupe is close to what similar S52 engined examples are pulling, which is usually in the high teens and low $20k range. If this was an S54 with similar mileage, it would certainly be priced closer to $30,000. The mods done to this car are rather tasteful and it appears things could be put back to stock fairly easily if so desired. With prices of earlier M iron skyrocketing, it might be prudent to pull the trigger on one of these sports coupes before things get way out of hand.

2000 BMW M Coupe

If it’s not the E30 M3 the hardcore BMW enthusiasts are drooling over, then it’s this car, the original M Coupe. A sibling to the M Roadster, the hardtop variant offered a stiffer, uncompromised package that was actually somewhat practical. With its breadvan profile, you could actually go away for a weekend with a moderate amount of luggage and one extra person. This euro market M Coupe for sale in the UK is a left hand drive example, which were more common than their right hand drive counterparts. It also has the S50 engine under the hood that pumps out 321 bhp and garnered jealously from Bimmer aficionados across the Atlantic.

MODEL HISTORY
First unveiled at the 1997 Frankfurt motor show the M coupe is BMWs M-developed version of the Z3 featuring one of three 24 valve six cylinder engines originally developed by BMW M for the E36 and E46 M3s. Developed under the leadership of engineer Burkhard Goschel with the specific goal of increasing torsional and structural rigidity to the Z3 chassis the development team had a hard time convincing the Directors to approve the model for production. It was give the go ahead under the condition that the project remain cost effective to produce and as such the M coupe shares many of its body panels and interior trim with the convertible.

BMW claim the M coupe has a static structural stiffness of 16,400 newton meters, 2.6 times stiffer than the convertible and the highest of any other model BMW has ever produced. Combine this superb chassis with the BMW M developed suspension, straight 6 engine and no driver aids it provides the enthusiast with a thrilling drive!

EQUIPMENT

Heated seats, Electric sunroof, Air conditioning, Driver and passenger airbags, Heated rear screen, Electric windows, Pioneer CD player (Aux input), Electric mirrors, Cargo cover for boot area, Tool kit, Spare wheel and jack.

EXTERIOR

This particular example is finished in the dazzling Dakar yellow paintwork which makes for a great combination with the cars striking lines and styling. The paintwork remains in fine order with no lacquer peel or corrosion to be found whatsoever. On close inspection there are some expected stone chips to be found to the lower half of the front bumper however, areas such as the wing mirrors and flared arches are free from any chips or dings. All of the black window surrounds and chrome details are in excellent condition and retain a deep colour, as does the rear lip/spoiler.

INTERIOR

The two-tone leather sports seats are in excellent condition and remain free from any sagging or damage, still feeling firm and supportive. The smart black and grey two-tone combination is carried through to the door cards and centre console, all of which is in fine order with no scuffs or marks. The centre console houses much of the switch gear and dials which are all showing very little signs of wear, feeling solid to operate. The carpets are perfectly clean throughout, protected in the foot-wells with a set of black over-mats showing no signs of wear. All of the tools and spare wheel are still present, situated under the boot carpet which remains spotlessly clean.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Being an earlier example, this M coupe is equipped with the stunning S50 engine that produces an impressive 321bhp, and with no kind of electronic traction or stability control system, it is certainly not for the faint-hearted. The S50 engine can be identified by the “BMW M Power” inscription on its cam cover, while the later S54 motor contains only the “M” badge. The ZF Type C 5-speed manual gearbox feels tight and presice shifting through the gears, handling the engines power perfectly.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The M Coupe still sits on the correct 17″ BMW alloy wheels. The deep rear dish on the wheels gives the car a very broad, aggressive stance. On close inspection there are some light scuffs to be found to the alloys however, if these were to be refurbished they would look superb. They are shod in a matching set of Bridgestone Potenza tyres that all have a good amount of tread remaining. The brakes feel strong and confident bringing the car to a standstill quickly and smoothly.

HISTORY FILE

This Z3M Coupe is in excellent mechanical condition having always been inspected by a BMW main dealer. The service booklet shows 8 stamps at the following mileage:

– 3,201km
– 6,638km
– 8,096km
– 16,826km
– 22,964km
– 29,304km
– 32,873km

the last being carried out at 36,231km. The original BMW document holder is still present, along with all the booklets and manuals as well as a spare key.

This M Coupe is the stuff of pipe dreams for those of us stateside, not only because the no fun club (aka the Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency) disallow such fun, but at over $40,000 USD it’s priced way above M Coupes in similar condition on the market here. Granted those cars wouldn’t have the S50 engine, but we won’t have permission to import these for another 12 years. Regardless, I always marvel at the stuff this dealer in the UK comes up with and this yellow number is an attractive little beast.

Red or Blue Pill? 1999 BMW Z M Roadster and 2000 BMW Z M Coupe

509

Want to have a lot of fun in an affordable package? Who doesn’t! Want that affordable package to be a future collectable, too? Well, the field narrows substantially from what you can choose from. There are a select few Volkswagens and Audis that fit the bill, and nearly every 911 fits the bill. But if you prefer what the engineers from BMW’s M division cook up, there are several options in the mid-teens right now. For around $15,000, you can have one of the most pristine E36 M3s, a mid-range E28 M5, a budget E39 M5, and even some decent E46 M3s. But if all of those are a bit too…serious…for you, the best answer may be to look at the Z M Roadster and M Coupe. The /7 and /8 cars are a hoot to drive, offer unique packages in both convertible and coupe guise, and seem to be on the upward swing of collectability. They also offered some of the neatest color packages available on Ms with color matched interior. Today I’ve got one of each; an Estoril Blue with Estoril leather Roadster and an Imola Red with Imola leather Coupe. Let’s start with the Roadster:

– 115901 miles
– 3.2 liter engine, 240 HP
– 5-speed manual trans.
– 19/26 mpg
– 15,000 M-Roadsters made compared to 300,000 Z3s. Fun! Fast! Beautiful car! Runs great. Love this car — so will you.

To me, the most interesting part of this car isn’t mentioned in the advertisement – it comes with a factory color-matched hardtop. Racers seek these hardtops out and they’re a little more rare to see. Estoril is a great color that really makes the M pop, especially with those great wheels. Miles are around average for the age, but as this is coming from a second-hand dealer I’d suspect maintenance records to be scarce. Despite this it looks pretty clean, the leather looks reasonably well kept, and I love that it’s got a hardtop. What an even bigger hardtop?

509

I have a secret love affair with Imola/Imola Z M Coupes; the first Z I drove was exactly like this. It’s a great package, sort of like a 240hp RWD first gen new Mini. There’s space in the back and that shooting brake look is so aggressive hunkered down with those rear flares. I think the Imola/Imola Coupe is probably the most desirable combination available on these cars; while I like the Evergreen a tad bit more the green leather is just a bit too much for my taste:

2000 BMW MCoupe in excellent condition. Looks and drives great. Purchased it in July 2011 with a rebuilt title (single car accident). There are no current issues with the car. During the time I owned it, it has always been garaged and properly maintained. It was my second car, only 4K were put on it in the period of last two years. New Conti tires with only 1.5 K on them. Two tone red/black leather interior in excellent shape.
I have moved to NYC and could not bring the car along, currently is stored at a friend’s house, if interested please contact to arrange viewing.

Slightly less miles than the roadster, but with a salvage title. If I was looking for long term investment, obviously this wouldn’t be your best bet – but if I was looking for a driver, as long as everything checked out and was repaired properly, the salvage title wouldn’t scare me away. I have to say that I think both of these cars are big winners in their own way – if you want an occasional track, autocross or fun rally car, both fit the bill because the of the hardtop on the Roadster. Were it my money, I think I’d jump into the Coupe provided a tech inspection didn’t reveal any shoddy work, but boy that Estoril looks neat with the hard top!

Which would you buy?

Show you’re Z Man: 2000 Z3 M Roadster and 2006 Z4 M Coupe

509

Last week I speculated in my Z Coupe post that we were seeing a good opportunity to get into some of the rarest BMWs offered on these shores, the Z coupes. While those two Z coupes were the non-M version and both were trick in their own way, it seems most of you prefer to see the M versions. I get it; they’re fast, flashy and fun, so today I cooked up an interesting comparison again between the E36/7 and E36/8s – this time a Z4 M coupe against a Z3 M roadster. Let’s start with the brilliant looking Imola Red coupe:

509

Year: 2006

If you are looking for the rare E86 M Coupe then you already know that it is regarded by BMW Enthusiasts as the last true Ultimate Driving Machine before BMWs became too electronic and took the fun out of driving with adjustable suspensions, turbochargers, automated transmissions and buttons to adjust the steering, exhaust note and everything else. Here’s a quick background so you know how much I truly love these cars. I was an intern for AutoWeek magazine in college when this car had its press introduction in the US. One of our editors drove one back to Detroit and I took it out for gas and a car wash. I immediately fell in love with the classic long hood, short deck proportions, the unbelievably responsive drivetrain, the seats that felt like they were custom made for me and the thickest little steering wheel I had ever set hands on. I vowed to myself to buy one when I could afford it. So in late 2008 I started conducting a nationwide search almost nightly (with only about 1,800 built in ’06-’08, you have to look nationwide for these cars) looking for a low mileage car with carbon leather trim, heated seats, the premium package and the VERY RARE extended leather package. I finally found an Imola Red M that fit all the options, it was a one owner just traded in at Asheville BMW in Asheville, NC and only had 7,500 miles on it and BMW had certified it as a pre-owned car and extended the warranty. Not surprisingly, I bought it the next day and it has been my pride and joy since. It is stored in mid November and comes out around the first of May. In the 4.5 years I’ve owned it I have put about 2,500 miles on it each year and it sits covered in my garage otherwise. The ONLY reason I’m selling it is because I’m getting married in July and will be buying a house soon. As you can see in the pictures the car is complete with 2 factory keys, all the books/manuals/DVD/original window sticker in the leather BMW binder. I have only had it at the BMW dealer once to replace the driver’s seat belt that was not retracting well and they serviced it under BMW’s free maintenance plan. The computer is not calling for the next service for another 9,500 miles. I replaced the battery in 2012. Since I drive the car so easily the OE Continental tires still have good tread left on them. The only thing I can think of that should be done in the next year is to have the front brake rotors resurfaced.

Factory Options included:
$1,800 – Extended leather option (covers center console, doors and sun visors in leather and make the interior look and fell much more premium. This option is VERY RARE.)
$2,500 Premium Package (best part of this package is the 10-speaker Hi-Fi stereo that sounds amazing)
Carbon Leather Interior trim (very neat looking leather finish around the center console and on the dash facing)
$500 Heated seats
$1,800 DVD Nav system with flip up screen

I’ve also included a picture showing the most significant rock chip located on the passenger side rear wheel flare. This wheel is also the only wheel with any curb rash and it is very minor. Trust me, I’m not happy that it’s there either. I could try to get a picture of it and email it to you if you are concerned. There are a few very light scratches here and there but they did not photograph even well enough to see and the car has been detailed regularly.

If you’re looking for a sports car that is a joy to drive and own, don’t buy a Corvette. Buy something rare like this that you won’t see in your neighborhood. In fact, I’ve only EVER seen one other M Coupe in Michigan. Remember, only 380 were built in 2006. The seats are amazing, the highly tuned straight six engine just builds power toward the 8,000 rpm redline, the 6-speed manual is a joy and the comfort features and great stereo make any trip a delight. Feel free to contact me with any questions. As you can tell I love to talk about these cars.

Note: Most of these pictures are from 2009 shortly after I bought the car but you’d never know I didn’t take them yesterday. Car is certainly one of the cleanest low mileage M Coupes left that is still Factory Stock in every way. Car may accumulate more miles if Michigan blesses me with some beautiful Fall days!

Just about everything about this car is perfect to me. I guess if pushed, I’d prefer Techno Violet as the color, but otherwise, it’s spot on. I had a student at a BMW Driver’s Education with a Techno Violet Z4 M Coupe and was totally floored by the out-of-the-box performance. It drove like a race car – and at race car speeds – but had the comfort of a streetable coupe. As a complete package, this car compares very favorably to late model 911s but at effectively half the price of most. To some, though, these small coupe interiors can be a bit claustrophobic. Why not drop the top then and look into that bright blue sky in this Evergreen Z3 M Roadster:

This is indeed a pretty rare color combination and probably should be the signature color for this car. It’s a neat shade and seems to suit the shape well, with a flashy but still appropriate degree of aggressiveness. I’m not such a huge fan of the matching leather, but if you’re going all in, why not. At about half the price of the M Coupe this car offers plenty of thrills, a spectacular soundtrack out the back, and miles of open sky above you. It’s not a race car but again compared to what you’d get in a 911 or Boxster convertible, this car compares reasonably favorably and stands out from the crowd a bit more – at least around me, Boxster and 911 convertibles are a dime a dozen; there aren’t too many days that I don’t see them, but M Roadsters and M Coupes are very rare sights indeed.

If it were my money I’d have to go with the Z4 coupe. I know it’s twice the price, but I was so surprised by how that package drove and felt, even years later it sticks in my mind. It’s hard to say you’d go wrong with either, though; drive them lightly and they’re not likely to lose much if any value over the next few years. Which one would you have?

1999 BMW M Coupe

I still remember the excitement I and a friend of mine had when the M Coupe first debuted. Neither of us had ever cared much for the Z3 and while the M Roadster was better it still missed the mark for us in some way. When word first reached our ears that there would be a Z3-based M Coupe, our interest was piqued but with some hesitation. As we heard a bit more and after seeing an alluring teaser photo of the quad exhaust and wide rear fenders peaking from underneath a car cover our hesitations vanished and we were suddenly enraptured. Once the car was unveiled it was as if all of the flaws of the Z3 were gone. While the shooting-brake has never really been a popular style during my lifetime, there was something about the design of the M Coupe that we really loved. Naturally, we wanted to take one for a drive. The car did not let us down: good power and nice steering feel to go along with a well-balanced and grippy chassis. And then there was that quirky styling. It fit the car: part hooligan, part sophisticate. As the years have passed, these cars, which were never produced in large numbers, have earned their proper place amongst enthusiasts right next to the M3. Which brings us to the car featured here: a 1999 Arctic Silver BMW M Coupe on offer from our reader John who is located just outside of Chicago.

Well maintained. Very good interior and good exterior. Never smoked in. Second owner and personally driven since 30k miles. Stock – no performance modifications.

Your opportunity to own a rare and iconic modern BMW. With less than 3000 M Coupes sold in the US this car is destined to become a classic, but someone should drive and enjoy this one today.

I’m the second owner of this BMW M Coupe and have personally driven it since 30,000 miles. No kids or teenage drivers. The car is tight, fast and fun with exceptional handling. I have the records of regular maintenance. This is an unadulterated Coupe – I have not made any performance mods to this car.

If you realize this is the time to enjoy an M Coupe while you can, please call or text 847-287-7321 with questions. Serious buyers only please.

For a car with quite a few miles on it, this M Coupe looks impeccable as both the exterior and the interior present remarkably well. Even better, it remains unmolested and in original condition. This is a car that has been driven and with regular maintenance should still provide plenty of enjoyable miles. And really, that’s the great thing about a car with higher mileage. There are increased risks of mechanical failure, sure, but that mileage also brings with it a lower price and the knowledge that as a buyer you are free to enjoy this car as much as you want. The M Coupe was always a driver’s car and should be driven. Though I rarely seen one these days, when I do these cars always turn my head.

1999 BMW M Roadster

Roadsters. These cars are a dilemma for me. While the lure of open air motoring is something I understand, there are roadsters that are, well, a little less masculine than others. Classic MG? Solid choice. SL? Questionable, but a R129 SL500 with AMG Monoblock wheels is butch enough. Z3, Boxster or SLK? Now we’re verging on what has become known as the hairdressers’ car. In other words, flashy badge, but not a lot of heaping portion of performance. However, a curious thing happened in the late 1990s, as BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche started turning up the heat on these small drop tops. Soon enough, we had another all out power war on our hands.

Over at BMW, the engineers decided to stuff the 3.2 liter inline six from the M3 into the Z3 roadster. Throw in some flared wheel arches, quad exhaust pipes, suspension tuning and tweaked body cladding and you had the M Roadster. It was an instant hit. Dropping 240 horsepower into such a little car was like putting a tactical nuke under the bonnet. Hilarity ensued. Over in Europe, they were even more lucky, getting the Motorsports engine with individual throttle bodies for a total of 321 horsepower. Eventually North America would get the higher horsepower S54 engine from the new M3 in 2001 and 2002. This M Roadster for sale has the earlier S52 motor and is painted in my second favorite BMW color behind Alpine White, Estoril Blue.

1999 BMW M Roadster 5-speed convertible with 49,1xx original miles! Over 60 pictures included to help document the condition of the car!

For sale is my beautiful 1999 BMW M Roadster In Estoril Blue exterior and interior. 49,1xx miles, averaging 3,500 miles per year. I purchased this vehicle from Basney Imports, BMW dealer in South Bend, Indiana in February 2012 with 46,784 miles. The dealer performed a full CPO-style inspection, service, and refurbishment on the car, which included refinishing the wheels and front bumper as well as 4 new tires. Due to the car being over 7 years old they couldn’t fully CPO the car with warranty, but did bring the car’s condition to CPO standards. Since I purchased the vehicle I’ve performed the following maintenance on the car:

As you can tell even with the CPO-style refurbishment there were still a few items that needed addressing. Some of the interior trim was subpar or missing, which I replaced. The shifter knob was worn, which I replaced. The AC Controls and center console gauges had some burned out bulbs, so I went in and replaced all the bulbs, including the one that weren’t burned out. Glovebox had the typical Z3 sag issue, which I corrected with a reinforcement bar. The factory stereo was skipping with a couple of distorting speakers, so I installed a brand new headunit, speakers and amp. Headunit features Bluetooth and 2 USB inputs which allow ipod control. I installed one USB hookup in the glovebox, the other USB hookup is in the new LeatherZ center armrest console. The interior rear view mirror wouldn’t adjust between day/night mode, so I replaced it. I also replaced the tired and worn factory floormats with some quality black & blue Cocomats which match perfectly.

I performed an oil change after 12 months. The cooling system looked to have been original from the factory, so earlier this year I had the full cooling system replaced, except for the radiator, with OEM BMW parts and an upgraded Stewart water pump. It should be set for another 10 years or 50,000 miles. The car is scheduled to go in to have the AC checked this week. While I always drive with the top down and AC off, I’ve noticed that it is not blowing as cold as it should. I will get this addressed and fixed this week at my local shop.

The car has been garaged since I’ve owned it and it has not seen the any rain, only driven on sunny days. As you can tell from the pictures it is in beautiful condition, no rust or other issues. Car looks to be 1-2 years old max in terms of condition. I have detailed, polished and waxed the car with professional quality tools and materials. While it is not in perfect concours condition (no 14 year old car with 49K miles it), it gets nothing but stares and admiration at local BMW CCA events. There are a few stone chips that have been touched up. A small scratch on the driver’s door has been touched up professionally as well, and a small scrape on the passenger rear wheel well has been touched up. The door scratch is impossible to capture with a camera, and the wheel well scrape I’ve captured in an attached pic. Neither is noticeable when standing more than 5 feet away.

Aside from the AC mentioned earlier, mechanically the M runs beautiful and drives beautiful. Engine starts immediately, pulls strong, and the car loves a winding 2 lane road. Rear subframe has been checked and is undamaged, no signs of separation or issues. Title is free and clear, no liens, and in my possession, ready to be signed over to the new owner. I had planned on keeping the M forever, but my 15 year old son will be driving soon, and with limited space & increased insurance costs with another driver in the house (and his little sister not far behind) it doesn’t make sense for us to keep the car at this time.

Asking price is $16,800 and the car is located in Helena, AL, about 25 miles southwest of Birmingham.

It’s no secret that M Coupe prices of similar vintage are taking off currently. It makes me wonder how much longer it will take for the M Roadster to follow. Perhaps, however, people view the open roofed version as a little less hard edged, so values might always lag a bit behind the Coupe. With just over 50,000 miles on the clock, $16,800 might be a little high, but is certainly in the ball park for this little sports car. Enough so that it has me rethinking the Cooper S sitting in my garage…

2001 BMW Z3 3.0i Coupe

We’ve featured a lot of M Coupes over the past few months and it’s clear that the market is steadily rising for these beastly little rockets. But seldom seen is the variant with the less powerful engine, the Z3 Coupe. It may not have the sharper edges of its M sibling, but it still included a 3.0 liter inline six and good reflexes. Being a dark horse often translates into good value. This Dakar Yellow Z3 Coupe for sale in New Jersey has the 5-speed manual gearbox and a good option seeking M Coupe fun but perhaps don’t need brute strength as a part of the equation.

DON’T MISS THIS BEAUTIFUL EXCLUSIVE DAKAR YELLOW COLOR!!!!

Price(s) does not include documentation, licensing, registration fees and taxes.

There is still plenty of tread left on the tires, practically BRAND NEW. The paint has a showroom shine. This vehicle was tastefully optioned. With just approx. 75K miles, this car is barely broken in-considering its production year. Mainly highway mileage. Very clean interior! This vehicle was owned by a non-smoker. Very smooth ride! All interior components are in excellent working order. Competitively priced for a car of this rarity.

-At 47k Pads and rotors replaced as scheduled.

-At 60k mile service performed on schedule, along with thermostat replacement,

-Tires just recently replaced and much much more, approx. $6,300 in service records and receipts available for this vehicle.

It was pampered and taken very good care of. You will NOT find this same car, 1 yr. of production only, in this rare color or in this condition. GOOD LUCK!!

The seller states that the Z3 Coupe was produced for only one year, but in fact, it was produced from 1999 through 2001. At first, the Coupe was available with the 2.8 liter inline six, followed on by the 3.0 liter one year later in Europe and in 2001 for the US market. The asking price seems to be a bit ahead of the curve. If the car had 50,000 miles or under, it would be a bit more palatable, but M Coupes with the S52 engine are not selling for much more. It’s nice, though, that service records are available, as the 70,000 to 100,000 mile range is when a lot of things can happen and when servicing is paramount. Regardless, this Z3 Coupe looks to be a fairly straight example of a seldom seen modern Bimmer. If this car could be had for somewhere around $13,000 to $15,000, it would be worth a second look.
