Two Porsche 944’s For Sale: Less Than 50k Miles Combined!

As a low-miles sucker, I spotted these two 944’s on eBayMotors and was immediately sucked in. As the pictures show, they are flawless covering less than 30k miles each. And they’re both for sale from the same seller.

1991 Porsche 944S2 on eBayMotors for $21k buy-it-now:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

This 1991 9442 s2 is probably the nicest one you will find. This is 1 of only 510 that was shipped to the U.S. in 1991. It comes with the upgraded 17″ Porsche cup wheels with Bridgestones all the way around. All services are up to date including the timing belt and the water pump, all shocks have been replaced, AC was just completely serviced. Everything works: electrical, lights, headlights, radio with EQ, all knobs and switches. Paint is pristine with just a few stone chips on the front. The interior is more of a charcoal gray ( the pictures show it as lighter gray) all leather is still supple and in excellant (new looking) condition, no cracks in the dash, carpet is clean an new looking. All books, tools, Porsche Bra in its Porsche bag, Porsche air pump, and misc. porsche stuff related ot this car come with it.

1987 Porsche 944 Turbo on eBayMotors for $19.5k buy-it-now:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

This is a 1987 944 turbo with only 26,000 miles. It has all documents from new. Original window sticker, original sales invoices from new, original dealer paperwork from new, original 1987 Porsche 944 turbo dealer brochure in full color aprox. 15″x 15″ and all mechanical service receipts from day one. Timing belt service was completed, and all services are up to date. If you are looking for a PRISTINE “Collector Quality” 944 Turbo, then you have found it. This 944 Turbo is as nice as the photos, no paint work, no scuffs no dings dents, just simply a well preserved 944 Turbo. Im in Bonita Springs Florida. We have an international airport here. If this car isn’t as nice as described, I will pay for your flight. If you choose not to fly and truck the car to your home, I will refund you purchase price and shipping charges if this car is not as represented.

I realize the prices are steep, but the pictures really seem to demonstrate two really clean and original cars. Those interior pictures could be from a brochure. Considering these cars are practically new, they could be considered a cheap means to nearly new Porsche ownership compared to the MSRP of today’s new Porsches!

1968 Porsche 912 For Sale in Bahama Yellow

The early Porsche 912 continues to look like one of the last remaining bargains in the classic Porsche market. While 911’s of the same vintage can frequently be seen in the high 20’s for clean garden varietals, and over $100k for the early S cars, the 912 continues to hover in the low 10’s depending on mileage and condition, yet shares many of the same charms that make the 911 a winner. Many owners would argue it’s at least 80% the same experience.

Check out this 1968 Porsche 912 For Sale on Pelican Parts Forums:

quote from seller’s listing:

1968 Porsche 912
Bahama Yellow
Engine # 4093391
VIN 12804570

5 Speed
Rebuilt 1969 Motor w/under 2500 miles Dual Weber Carbs
Great Mechanical Condition
Good Cosmetic Condition with normal chips and some rust in floors and rockers (inner and outer) will eventually need repair.
Mostly original down to the Numbered 1 through 13 slats on the rear deck lid. Supporting Doc’s for majority of cars life. Extra parts, sales brochures, original touch-up paint (I dont think it’s useable)…

$7,900. No email lowball offers, no scammers, no tire kickers. Title on hand. Amco Rack not included.

I am interested in partial trade of a nice original PRE-69 Beetle or a well kept 914. Please don’t email me wanting to trade a civic with a wing on it…

You can find more photo’s at http://www.themotoringjournal.com/ Simply enter 912 in the search at the right side.

The owner of this car has dropped the price $1100 in less than a month’s time and would seem to indicate a motivated seller. While the motor isn’t the original, it is rebuilt. And this isn’t going to be a concours car anyway. His website has many articles on the model and the classified ad on Pelican Parts is refreshingly honest. Personally if I were buying, I’d keep it as is if the rust was liveable and drive the balls off it!

A Pair of Low Mileage Porsche 968’s For Sale

Both these cars have under 40k miles, both are on the east coast, and both are looking really tasty for fans of the 924/944/968 series – of which you can include me amongst! First up is this 1993 Porsche 968 for sale on eBayMotors finished in Amazon Green Metallic for $18k buy-it-now:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

This car has been kept in a climate controlled enviroment all of its life. Original sticker was $45,764.79. Lots of options.

N7N7 Amazon Green Metallic $823.00
TT Partial Leather Seat Classic Grey $682.00
XDU Rim Cap with Porsche Crest $208.00
220 Limited slip Differential $913.00
490 Hi-Fi Sound PKG/10 speaker/amp $561.00
692 CD Changer “CD-C1 $1,245.00

He has the original factory 16″ rims (with no tires) that are in perfect condition that are include with the car. The tries only have about 1000 miles on them. The rims pictured are 18”.

And the second is this 1993 red on black 968 in Florida for $21.5 buy-it-now:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

The first owner kept everything from new; including:

Meticulous maintenance records
Original Factory Window Sticker ($43,140)
All Original Books/Manuals/Pamphlets/Warranty cards
Press KIT that includes loads of Color Brochures and Dealer Sales info
Full COLOR dealer sales brochures.
COLOR Magazine Articles from dealer
Original TEMP TAG from new.
Letter from President of PORSCHE USA ( signed )
Original Porsche 968 Technical Data and specification brochure.
And Much more Misc. other documents.

Second owner picked it up and brought it to Georgia and had it for 3-4 years and kept it as nice as the first owner. It now resides here in Bonita Springs Florida and can be view at any time.

Mechanically its runs out strong with no problems. AC blows hard and cold and everything works.

Personally, I’m liking the color combo on the first one better, and it’s over three grand cheaper. I always put a premium on low mileage examples because in my mind it’s less road time and thus less opportunity for accidents and poor maintenance. But even if a PPI revealed that it needed some work, wouldn’t the three grand saved budget nicely to make for a nearly perfect example?

1985 Ruf BTR For Sale: The Ultimate Tuner Porsche 930?

While perhaps not the most extreme 930 tuner car [note: Jim has corrected me in the comment that the Ruf is actually built on a narrow-bodied 911, not a 930. Thanks Jim!], it is certainly the most widely recognized from the mid 80’s. This gorgeous black 1985 Ruf BTR is on eBayMotors right now with a buy-it-now of $69k:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

Offered here is an stunning example of a widebody RUF BTR. This example had a full conversion done in 1987. It was built to stage III specs (475 bhp). The conversion included new RUF 3.4 liter BTR motor, Ruf 5-speed transmission, RUF front oil cooler (requires Ruf front spoiler), and exhaust. All body modifications (boxed rockers, slotted rear fender ducks, and RUF front spoiler) were also done at the same time. Paint is original from that time on.

Car is in mint condition, with only 36,874 miles. Car runs great. Everything including A/C works perfectly. Paint is 9/10. Interior is 9/10. Tires are brand new with ony 100 miles on them. All service is up to date. Very few 930’s, let alone RUF’s, left in this condition.

These cars a VERY rare. Less then 100 are believed to have been produced. Ruf’s are the most collectable of all Porsches. This will only appreciate in value over the years.

Full documentation from RUF, including original reciept, are included.

What an outstanding car! The BTR develops 374hp, which for it’s day was astonishing. That’s a full 92hp more than a stock Porsche 930, which is no slouch in it’s own right! While most are familiar with the RUF Yellowbird ‘CTR’ model featuring 475hp(!), the BTR is just as rare and probably a fair bit easier to live with.

I found a couple of BTR videos on YouTube. The first is a Japanese video review clip with some nice videography:And this one is a first timer behind the wheel of his Dad’s car with Dad in the car:

I’d probably be so nervous that I’d kill it the first time too!

If you liked this entry, you should check out this DP Motorsports 935 that I’ve posted previously. I had the opportunity to talk with one of the original owners this past week and will be featuring that interview shortly!

Update: This post is out of date and the item listed is probably not available any more. Why not take a look at these RUF Porsche’s and parts that are currently for sale!

2001 Porsche Boxster S For Sale with Tasteful Modifications

Paul spotted this one on his local Craigslist. He recalls seeing it at this years Sunriver Exotic Car Show and says it looks excellent in person.

2001 Porsche Boxster S For Sale on Eugene Craigslist

quote from seller’s Craigslist posting:

2001 Porsche Boxster S

The pictures say it all, this sucker looks very aggressive but not over the top. The stance is fantastic. Take note of all the rare factory options too like the sport seats, 030 suspension, and interior package. And some of these aftermarket goodies are not easy to get or accordingly pricey to buy. With the options, add-on’s, and the low miles… that might equal $25k. I’d be sold right now if it had the hardtop to match.

3 Porsche 911RS Hotties For Sale: 1 Real One and 2 Clones

Since the real deal is well out of my range (real or imaginary), I have to wonder if these two clones measure up 80-90% of the way for a fraction of the price. I guess it comes down to your nature: investor or enthusiast, because an investor wouldn’t drive the real thing as hard or as often as it should be. As it was intended.

The real deal: 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Coupe Touring Coupe on eBayMotors being offered by Ooely and Blackburn of Indianapolis:

quote from Ooely & Blackburn eBayMotors listing:

This 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS coupe is finished in correct code#114 signal yellow with black vinyl and cloth interior. It is an all numbers matching proper older restoration. We have carefully inspected this gorgeous RS and have found it to be a fabulous correct example. The chassis number is 9113600631, the engine number is 6630645 , the transmission number is 7830637 and the paint code number is 114 (525212) signal yellow. It is one of just 87 Carrera RS cars to be produced in this color by the factory. This rare Porsche must be considered one of the most correct and original numbers matching cars in the country. The car was produced in February of 1973 and immediately shipped to its original owner in Luxemburg.

And on to the clones. The first is this lovingly prepared 72 Targa on eBayMotors:

quote from seller’s eBayMotor’s listing:

The key with building a good RS is to start with a great car. This car was originally sold new in Southern California which means that it has lived a rust-free life.

This car went through an extensive 2-year restoration and it shows. It is a stunning example and extremely well built. It was taken down to the bare metal and painted its original color in acrylic enamel with hardner. It then went through countless hours of hand color sanding and buffing to bring out its shine. The paint looks great. There are a few rock chips here and there from use, but that’s about it.

And then there’s this 1986 Carrera with backdated bodywork to provide a modern configuration that looks vintage and appropriate:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

I am selling this amazing RS recreation based on a mint 1987 Carrera. (galvanized shell) 950 trans. Grand Prix Bright white fresh paint with mat black decals. This is a specialty car and very tastefully done, you won’t find one like this anywhere! Lots of time and dedication went into building this vehicle.

Stock 3.2 ltr motor (no leaks) Car and motor have 48k miles, Air condition and sunroof were taken out to lighten the car, full new RS interior, suede dash, WEVO shifter, LSD, 17×8 17×9 inch Lindsey Racing wheels, Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R tires, Reccaro SRD seats, Car Graphic pedal set, Brey Krause harness bar and tower bar, Nardi suede classic steering wheel, Willans harness, Upgraded Brembo big brakes and rotors, Turbo tie rods, SSI heat exchangers, polished Dansk exhaust, carbon fiber fenders, bumpers, duct tail (MAshaw)

Everything on this car and listed is brand new from all new seals, trim, lights, screws etc.. Fully tuned, very tight. Very light and fast!

So if it’s not obvious by now, I think the real thing is way overpriced. A true 911 enthusiast would want a car that could be driven and experienced. While a collector that could afford the real 911RS would argue otherwise, I’d challenge the buyer to hit a dozen track days a year and drive the car as intended to prove their allegiance!

I’m Bored: 2007 Ruf 3400K Coupe 25th Anniversary Edition Coupe

I usually post modern classic German sports car and sport coupe classifieds on this blog that the everyman could likely attain and afford to maintain, upgrade, and enjoy. But nothing really tickled my fancy tonight, so I decided to look upmarket. That’s when I stumbled on this stunning Ruf 3400K for sale on eBaymotors:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

This is a 2007 Ruf produced and titled 3400K Coupe. Ruf Automobile GmbH has a unique and exclusive relationship with Porsche. Ruf Automobile purchases a “body-in-white” from Porsche- “body-in-white” refers to the most basic structure or frame of the car with nothing installed including body panels, drive train or suspension components. Ruf then completely “hand-crafts” the vehicle from that point at their factory in Pfaffenhausen, Germany, all paint, engine, interior, suspension and unique Ruf components are fitted. This is why Ruf is recognized as a manufacturer and Ruf cars have their own unique VIN.

Oh my God, this car is pure sex! The Cayman S is already a total success story in the automotive press, but when Ruf lays hands to this model and returns a car worthy of it’s own badge and designation, well then, you have a superior and rare machine indeed. Here are the specs according to a European Car article on this model:

RUF 3400K
Layout
Longitudinal mid-engine, rear wheel drive

Engine
3.4-liter flat six, centrifugal-type supercharger, camshaft adjustment, hot-film air mass sensor, three-way catalytic converters with metal substrates, aluminum intake manifold with integrated intercoolers

Transmission
Six-speed manual

Suspension
Adjustable coilovers

Brakes
F: Four-piston calipers, 12.5-inch
front rotors R: Four-piston calipers, 11.8-inch rotors

Wheels and Tires
Ruf alloys 8.5×19 (f), 10×19 (r) Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 235/35 (f), 265/35(r)

Exterior
Ruf front bumper with integral air intakes, rear wing, rear bumper

Interior
Aluminum pedals, gear lever trim, instrument panel

Performance
Peak Power: 400 hp
Peak Torque: 324 lb-ft
0-62 mph: 4.4 sec.
Top Speed: 181 mph

And here’s a Ruf promotional video, which features a Ruf 3400 about midway through the video, which is set to Firestarter by Prodigy. Awesome!

Now that I’m totally smitten with this fantasy car, I’ll be very eager to see what the final bidding reaches. Then I’ll take that number and adjust my keno ticket accordingly!

Update 11.11.08: Updated to the most recent listing, which now carries a $129k buy-it-now (gulp!)

Euro Spec 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo For Sale

Wow, there’s not much not to like on this great looking car. Low miles, gray over tan, beautiful upgrade rims, and rare European specification import make this car highly desirable to the Porsche 951 enthusiast. Here’s a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo For Sale on eBaymotors:

quote from seller’s eBaymotors listing:

You are bidding on a RARE and UNIQUE 944 Turbo (aka 951). I have owned a number of 951’s over the years, but this one is by far the most unique. This CarFax certified 951 has low mileage (63,239), comes in the rare color combination of Graphite Metallic over Light Grey and has a binder of receipts. If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind 951 with pedigree, read on!!!

This 951 has only had 2 owners. The first owner was a physician who purchased the car in Europe and brought it to the United States. The VIN is WP0ZZZ95ZGN101375. This car is 1 of only 2,760 944 Turbos produced for the rest of the world (ROW) in 1986!!! By comparison, there were about 3 times as many US spec 944 Turbos produced in 1986. The European versions had the highly desirable streamlined rear bumper and front fenders with marker lights in them (see photos). The most interesting feature on this car is the instrument cluster. The warning lights are written in German!!!

This car comes with the original European Delivery documents which consist of a Porsche Touring Pass and another book which appears to be a travel guide and is written entirely in German. I have included a photo of both of these items in their original plastic case. They are in pristine condition. The car also comes with the original First Aid kit (never used) which is also written in German.

This car was specially ordered from the factory with a single sport seat which is confirmed by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. The car has the following option codes: C00 (Eurospec emissions), M74 (touring package), 197 (heavy duty alternator and higher amperage battery), 261 (passenger mirror – electric, heated and adjustable), 418 (protective side moldings), 431 (4 spoke leather sport steering wheel), 533 (alarm system), 573 (air conditioning) and 650 (removable sunroof).

This 951 was well maintained and comes with the original books, including the stamped service book, and a binder of receipts. All of the important maintenance and updates have been performed and documented.

There’s a little wear detailed in the ad, but none of which detracts that much from what, in my mind, is a really cool and rare example. I’ll update after the auction ends. 3 days to go and currently reserve not met at $6100.

1990 Porsche Carrera 2 For Sale: Great Looking Car Under $20k!

I came very close to buying this car, but having just announced the formation of MotoringBlogs and a change in eventual career, it’s really not the right time. And it’s killing me. My much younger 18 year old self is going kick my own ass for this, but I need to hold off just a little longer — especially in this economy.

Enough crying because someone else needs to snag this great deal. I spotted this 1990 Porsche Carrera 2 on 6SpeedOnline and immediately went to work on my research.

quote from seller’s post:

This is a very clean example of an early Porsche C2! It has been owned by the same individual since 1996.

The car has roughly 130k miles on it but the newer motor/clutch/fly-wheel have roughly 35k miles!

The car has been lowered with H&R lowering springs
It has a Weltmeister chip
Racing Dynamics front strut brace
Custom crossover exhaust
New steering rack and tie-rod ends
Brakes were replaced recently and are in great shape!
New sunroof cables
New hood shocks
Comes with service records and was well cared for and maintained!
Comes with Speedware Harness bar and belts (belts are expired)
Comes with Bike rack as well

OVERALL, this is an exceptional car for its age! It has been well cared for and it shows. If you are looking for a good driver, a track car or a car to turn into a racer car, you can’t beat this one for the price!

$18,500.00

DAN@SPEEDWAREMOTORSPORTS.COM

I want to send a big thank you to Dan at SpeedWare Motorsports in Redmond, Washington. They are handling the sale of this car for one of their customers. He is a class act and has proven to be very fast in answering all my questions, not to mention he is obviously an enthusiast himself. I encourage any real and potential buyers to contact him right away to lock up this sale right away.

I’ll be posting a Porsche 964 Buyer’s Online Resource guide soon about how you can do your own research and become an educated buyer.
