1990 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC with 29k miles

$_57

The R107 SL was the icon of a generation for Mercedes-Benz. Introduced in 1972, it’s popularity was such that it carried on strong through the end of the 1980s, bringing with it popularity that it’s larger sibling, the C126 SEC just couldn’t match. The SEC was released as a replacement for the R107 based SLC hardtop, which brought the big four place Mercedes coupe within the design language of the newly released W126 S class sedan. AMG would have their way with the SEC throughout the years, creating some really butch looking variants designed specifically for left lane Autobahn antics. The SEC would carry on until 1991, when the larger W140 based SEC would appear, bringing with it design details that were a bit more brutal in nature.

Towards the end of the run, the C126 SEC came equipped with the same 5.6 liter V8 as seen under the hood of the 560SL and 560SEL, but this two-door pillarless coupe would turn out to be the road less traveled for the high end Mercedes customer. Restrained styling, smooth power and impeccable build quality were the order of the day. These cars have a look that doesn’t look terribly outdated today, which is not something you can say for many vehicles from the 1980s. This second to last year 560SEC for sale in New Jersey is one of the lowest mileage examples we’ve seen here at GCFSB with an asking price that is sure to raise a few eyebrows.

Joe DiMaggio’s 1991 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL

$_57

Baseball season is fast approaching, with Spring Training just a few weeks away. For fans of America’s pastime, this particular 1991 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL is tied to a significant piece of the sport’s history. It was Old Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium in the summer of 1991, and one of the team’s greatest players, Joe DiMaggio, was on hand as it was the 50th anniversary of his 56 game hitting streak. That day, he did something rather out of character and treated the crowd to a speech. Afterwards, DiMaggio was presented this S class as a token of appreciation by the team. Now, almost 15 years after his death, this very car is up for sale in Arizona.

1994 Mercedes-Benz S320

$_57

It’s common knowledge that you can get more for your money with a used car than you can new. If you are brave enough to dabble in the art of pre-owned luxury vehicles you can, in fact, get a lot more. So let’s transition from the E320 featured earlier today to this S320 from the same model year, 1994. While it’s not the top of the line S class of its day, this car still cost a pretty penny when new and can now be had for a fraction of its original value. This particular car for sale in California has only 55,000 original miles, leaving a lot of life left for the new owner.

Clean 1992 Mercedes 600SEL, good $ per cylinder ratio

1992 Mercedes 600SEL4

We love no reserve auctions. Particularly ones that start at under $1,000 for a car that once cost well over $100,000 when new. We’ve reported before about how these big Benzs with V-12s  can be a nightmare in terms of maintenance, but this one looked particularly clean and with no reserve, if the price is right, there may be some $s left over to help with inevitable repairs. I think the W140 probably isn’t as bad as the next generation of V12 Mercedes when it comes to work and cost to own, people just give it a bad rap because of the extra cylinders.

1979 Mercedes-Benz 280S

Base model luxury sedan. A contradiction in terms, no? But, as the old saying goes, the world needs ditch diggers, too. And so it goes with the Mercedes-Benz S class. One model is going to have to be labeled as the “entry-level” model, so to speak. In the 1970s, that would be the 280S, a W116 with a dual carb version of the M110 inline-6. While not sold on these shores, naturally a few found their way over here via private importers. This one for sale in Florida is an eye popping shade of Signal Red with matching hubcaps and sans sunroof that comes with an interesting history.
