2007 Mercedes-Benz R63 AMG

I’m a big fan of obscure cars. Whether they are rare, are of a unique body style or incorporate interesting technology, I’m all over them. While the following car didn’t break the mold technology wise, it is super rare and mixes the qualities of a van and a crossover. And while we’ve featured a few E55 and E63 AMG estates on GCFSB, we haven’t talked much about the vehicle in question, its big brother, the E63 AMG. While it is still sold here in the US, the R class never quite caught on with buyers here, but that didn’t stop Mercedes from sending this people hauler over to the boffins at AMG to work their magic. What resulted is this, a 503 horsepower monster that can reach 60 mph in 5 seconds flat. Criticized for being too heavy and cumbersome to wear the AMG nameplate, the R63 was sold for but one year with sales in the double digits.

Complete documented service history from Mercedes-Benz. Flex service completed on January 10, 2012. We obtained this one owner, 100% clean Carfax black over black Nappa leather 2007 R63 via a new car trade. We have supplied many detailed photos to give you an accurate sense of the NICE condition of this SUPER RARE AMG VEHICLE! As pictured there are a few light scratches and small chips around the vehicle, but nothing terrible for a vehicle of it’s age and miles. Please note there are many shadows cast on the vehicle due to the conditions in which the photos were taken. Inside we found a clean and spacious cabin FILLED with LUXURY FEATURES. The transmission shifts smoothly and the 6.3L 8 cylinder engine offers POWER when called upon. The tires offer DEEP tread measuring 7/32nds.

This car is a love it or hate it situation. While I probably would never need this much space, I love cars like this that you would never expect to be fast. The car looks fairly clean, but its mileage equates to almost 20,000 miles put on each year, which is fairly high for an AMG car. While the asking price is certainly a fraction of what it cost new, you’d have to really need something this large and this fast to justify spending that kind of money for a car this used. Still, it would be a fun rig to catch people off guard at the errant traffic light…

Very nice. A 2007 R-Class with that kind of mileage goes for something in the low $20ks and I’m not sure that this is worth a $10k – $15k premium. To me it’s just a nice, R-class with nearly 100k on the odo. There’s another R63 for sale in New Jersey with 10k fewer miles at a comparable price.

The more times a dealer says a car is “rare”, the higher the price they can charge.

    Hmm…a 6-passenger haul-ass crossover/minivan AMG.

Rare? Yes. Cool? Definitely. But nearly 100K miles in 5 years on an AMG? And still north of $35K?

Your local AMG specialist has had his eye on a new fishing boat, and congratulations, now you’re going to help him buy it.

The R class was born out of the Chrysler connection with MB. Does anyone really want a Chrysler Mini-van like this one?

True, Howard…. but if I were ever to be caught driving one of these, an R63 is the one I’d want my butt planted in.
