With R107 prices on the rise, the next logical choice for those seeking a used SL bargain would be the R129 SL. The early 300SL and SL300s are a tad bit underpowered and the V12 powered 600SL and SL600 have a thirst for petrol and are murderous on the wallet when it comes to maintenance. The 500SL and SL500 are the best bet for those looking to strike a balance between performance and reasonable running costs. If the maintenance is documented as described and it clears a PPI without anything major lurking, this SL represents a lot of style for the money.
