1975 Porsche 914 1.8

Rob is on holiday this week, so I’m going to take it upon me to throw a few Porsches out there in his absence. The 914 was the predecessor to the 924, itself another close collaboration between Volkswagen and Porsche. Offered in both four and six cylinder trim, this 1975 1.8 liter for sale in Florida represents the second to last year for this model, one which is often forgotten in the annals of Porsche history. Kermit the Frog said once “it ain’t easy bein’ green.” Perhaps the same is true on being a 914.

I’m a big fan of the color on this 914. Cars like this were meant to be painted fun, cheerful hues. We’ve noticed an uptick in interest with front-engine, water-cooled Porsches of yore, but the 914 still is a bit of a dark horse when it comes to collectors. But, these are relatively cheap to procure and easy to maintain classics, comparatively speaking to other Porsches of the era. The 1.8 liter engine was the smaller of the two power plants on offer at the time, but given the condition, this one should probably pull around the $14,000 to $17,000 range at a modest estimate.

The trailing edge of the trunk lid as well as the rear panel were not black in the day. Confused if total re spray why one would paint the area black. Should be body color. Also the A pillar and windscreen frame should be body color. Wrong mirrors. Again if total repaint why not body color. It is an interesting color (I like) and would look better if all body color.
