Yesterday, Nate wrote up a clean and well modified 1976 Scirocco; with some great BBS wheels, the right Euro touches and a 2.0 16V motor, it was one great looking package. Amazingly, as rare as the first generation Scirocco is to see, there was another that popped up at the same time. However, this one takes a very different path to the modifications; instead of clean and OEM it looks straight out of a tuning magazine from 1983 replete with lightning bolts in blue and pink down the sides. I fully expect to hear Duran Duran blasting from the radio when a car like this pulls up. Can it pull off the ’80s stereotypical look and still be a winner?

Unlike Nate’s ’76 Scirocco, this one has no engine modifications. That’s a bit of a shame, since the 1.6 mated to the 4-speed is really gutless compared to a 2.0 16V with a 5-speed. While it’s the original mill for the car, under the hood also looks nothing like as good as the ’76 model. Outside, this car looks reasonably clean overall, but close inspection indicates that perhaps the bodykit that was added was painted with a slightly different shade of silver, resulting in a somewhat odd look. That’s highlighted further by the slab-sided body kit and filled plate tub. Besides that, the kit tends to ruin the clean and simple Giugiaro lines in my opinion. The Ronal Turbo wheels suit the package as shown, but really aren’t my favorite either. While nothing is listed, the car does seem to sit lower than stock. Inside the interior appears to be quite clean, but again isn’t as nice as the ’76s redone interior. Unsurprisingly, my conclusion would be that this car just isn’t worth nearly as much as yesterday’s example. Still, it’s rare to find good condition cars, and while this one isn’t particularly original it does wear some close-to-period modifications and clearly at one point a lot of money was spent on it. I’d expect the no reserve auction to end between $5,000 and $6,000 for this period piece that needs some finishing.

Is that Dazzler’s car?
From the rear, looks kind of like a CRX.
I like the other one better. I would have to re-work a lot of this one
