1984 Audi Quattro

We don’t often get to look at 1984 Quattros, and that’s for a good reason. While Quattros are rare stateside full-stop with only 664 brought here originally, just 10% – 65 – were ’84 model year cars. Like ’85, ’84 was a transition year as the newer dashboard, 8″ Ronals and a few other minor changes crept into production. Today’s car isn’t fully original – which used to be a death sentence for value on these cars, but no longer – as they’re being snatched up. Let’s check out this metallic black one:

1984 Audi Original Quattro Coupe. 1 of only 65 imported into the USA for that year. One year only dash nearly identical to the Sport Quattro dash. 89k original miles. Repainted in original color graphite metallic black. BBS 7.5×15 wheels oem Audi. Audi Sport Steering Wheel. Halo headlights. Extremely clean. Soft chocolate brown leather interior with no rips or tears. Very rare collectors car which were hand built in Germany.

So this one is claimed to be finished in Graphite Metallic, but that’s both a rare color on the Quattros, looks too dark, and wasn’t available on ’84s here. Go back in time a bit and we find this chassis for sale at Kar in 2003 for $6,500 (remember those days!) and they say it was Charcoal, which also wasn’t available. I think the color may be Montego Black Metallic, but it’s also hard to tell and it’s been repainted. Inside we have fairly typical Chocolate leather, and the forged BBS 200/V8 spec wheels are a nice if unconventional addition. Otherwise we don’t have a lot of info on what’s transpired for the last 18-plus years, but it looks reasonably good enough. Bidding? Yep, already past $25,000 with the reserve unmet so far. Time certainly have changed.

I’ve always liked these cars, but they have always seemed kind of…flimsy(?) to me. They always look old to me. Maybe I’m wrong. That brown interior is a really nice color.
