After a 5000+ mile road trip in an F350 with a 50-ft trailer, getting to drive my E28 yesterday was a total joy. Low, direct, quick – all of the reasons I bought it become immediately apparent when I climb back in. For those interested in 80s German cars, I highly recommend the E28 for it’s midsize versatility, excellent handling, and clean styling. Today’s 528e brings all of those elements in a commuter-friendly package, rocking an autobox and the efficiency-minded eta 2.7-liter inline-6 in an epically clean package inside and out that belies its 135k miles. And it’s from Tennessee, where I bought my M5. So we got that going for us, which is nice.

This is a very clean 1986 BMW 528e. It is Polaris Silver metallic with an all Black interior. Always garaged and Non-smoker owned since day one. It has all the original sales books and cassette cleaner in the binder in the glovebox. It also has the factory tool kit, jack, wheel chock and spare that has never been used. Nicely loaded with power everything including the sunroof. All lights work, all gauges work, real good set of Michelin tires, fresh oil change, sparkplugs and air filter in April of this year. Thousands in receipts including $1,900.00 in the last 9 months that include a rebuilt transmission (shifts smooth as new), new exhaust from the manifolds back.
A nice aftermarket CD player has been installed and sounds great. The interior is 99% near mint, the carpets have always been covered and look brand new. Zero damage to the seats or door panels. The odometer stopped working (common issue and an easy fix) at 131,500 miles about 3 months ago and I would guess it has about 134,000 miles as I don’t drive it much. Front rotors need turned as there is a slight shake when coming to a stop otherwise runs and drives as smooth as can be, A/C blows warm. Paint has started to peel some on the passenger door, fly in and drive her home, I wouldn’t think twice about driving across country in it as it has been very reliable, need to buy a truck and hate to see it just sit in the garage.
The eta engine and autobox could keep the bidding low, making this a great entry point into the E28 market. It truly is a beautiful example and would be a well-kept and clean daily driver. For those looking for a nice sedan to cruise around in who aren’t too worried about 3 pedals or going 150mph, you should watch this auction closely.

My dad had one of these when new. Loved the smell of the leather. Still remember it today.
