Just what will $5,000 buy you in the new year? Sure, there are plenty of Porsches out there you can find at this price, but most are basket cases that will run you out of house and home. But how about this 1986 944 owned by the proverbial little old lady? Sure, we’d all love to have a 911, but for those of us of more modest means who still want to get into a P-car, this is one sweet ride.

This car belongs to my elderly Mother-In-Law whose memory is failing her, leading to the sale. With this in mind, some of the details of the car are lost in the sands of time. Here’s what I know for sure. Mom is the second owner of the car and has owned it from nearly new, and its always been her “baby.” She always treated it well, with really low miles 82,000. The tires are almost new and in perfect condition. It has been in air conditioned storage (in Palm Springs) for many years, until Mom’s health forced a move to the Bay Area. Since moving here I have replaced the following:
Battery
Fuel Pump
Fuel Lines
Fuel Rail
Full Set of Fuel Injectors
DME Relay (it has a spare relay too)The car started right up & runs like a charm, it even passed a smog test first time recently. There is a small ding in the hood & a trim vent is missing from the interior. The leather interior is in great condition with no rips, I don’t think the rear seats have ever been used. The service history is missing from the car but I’m sure a view of the car will convince you its been looked after. The original owners manual along with some sales brochures are included. The original security screen for storage are is complete & looks never to have been used. The original ‘period’ radio cassette doesn’t work but I’m sure the 80’s style car phone ‘hook up’ does!!! The air conditioning does work but is weak. As far as I can tell, all other electrical systems work. The car is on a non-op certificate and the original pink slip is clean (and green)!
This is a great opportunity to buy an original unmolested car for a great price. Reply by E-mail or text… seven – oh- seven – three – zero -one – zero – nine – one- zero .
While the lack of service records is certainly risky, I would wager to say that this Porsche is a good value at the current ask. With 911 prices soaring, it’s reasonable to suspect 944 values will creep up as the years pass, as enthusiasts want to get into one of the best handling cars of its time. This particular 944 seems to be a good one for someone looking to get in on the low end of the curve.
