1987 BMW 535iS

Back in April I took a look at the fan-favorite E28 535iS – a car that struck a great balance, with most of the performance and look of the M5 at a cut rate:

Today I’m back with another in one of my favorite shades – Royal Blue Metallic – and inside is a treat as well, with Llama (209) leather upholstery. With higher mileage and some modifications, is this one a good deal?

1987 BMW E28 535is factory 5-speed 1 of 42 in the Royal Blue Metallic over llama leather sport seats

All functions work great, power locks, power windows, power sunroof, power antenna etc
All seat functions work too!
AC is cold and heat is hot, car always runs normal temps and starts everytime. This is a great driver condition E28, its not a show car but you wont find a nicer driving 535is near this price. Paint isn’t great but still looks decent.
This is one of those get in a drive cars, go anywhere and drives wonderful. Tons of power, no noises, rattles shakes or quirks.

Newly refinished Euro BBS Mahle basket weave 16×8″ and 16×7″ wheels that were professionally powder coated gold, polished faces, repaired lips and polished, then clear coated. Super easy to clean and stay clean!

Not sure what else to write, very little rust, runs great, could use paint in places, mechanically runs great. Ready to drive asap

The modifications are fairly limited and overall make the 535iS look even more purposeful, with a lowered stance and those great BBS wheels. All around the car looks surprisingly tidy given its 35-year-old age and 200,000 miles; certainly we’ve seen many examples appear in worse condition. As a result of the driver-quality presentation and higher mileage, it’s acceptable that the starting price is more in line with what we’d expect; the $12k opening bid is less than half the asking price of the last one I looked at, and to me it’s likely in line with its value on the market today.
