The below post originally appeared on our site July 21, 2014:

It’s probably safe to say that the 911 will always overshadow every other model in the lineup, but it’s nice to see that publications like Flüssig magazine are catering to enthusiasts of early water cooled Porsches. These are cars that have a lot to offer in terms of quality and driving pleasure, yet many are still quite affordable for the P-car enthusiast. Towards the end of the model run, Porsche offered a detuned version of the 944’s 2.5 liter inline-4 in the form of the 924S. Produced through 1988, we wouldn’t see another “affordable” Porsche until the debut of the Boxster a decade later. This 924S for sale in California is closing in on 100,000 miles but is all original with service history dating back to 1990.

Description:
You are looking at a super clean, very original Porsche 924S. You don’t see many 924s these days, especially ones as nice and original as this. We have all service history dating back all the way to 1990. The paint and body is all original, rust-free, and accident-free. There are a few marks in the paint as well as some chips, nothing you wouldn’t expect for a car of this age. The front valance is scratched and tweaked, which you can see in the photos. The upholstery is all original and in near-perfect condition. The seats and dash have always been covered and are also near perfect. The dash is free of any cracks or distortion. The car runs and drives beautifully and sounds great. Even the A/C blows cold. Most 924s you see have been poorly cared for and need lots of work; this is not one of those cars. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you have.

Lately I’ve been thinking to myself that I really should pick up a 924 or 944, given how affordable good ones can be. Then I reconsider, given I live in an urban environment with little parking. Alas, my car collection fantasies are thwarted for just a little while longer. Given the condition and mileage, somewhere in the $5,000 to $7,000 range should be just about right on this car.

nice one Paul, in addition, this was the first year for the 924S in America after a 5 year absence of the 924. launched in Europe in mid 1985, this one has a slightly de-tuned 2,5 liter engine from the 944. possessing 150bhp (944 had 163bhp). de-tuning was simply done by knocking back the compression from 10,6:1 to 9,7:1, so technically, the S could handle lower grade fuels better. and since the 924 has a narrower body than the 944 with a better Cd of .33, it could’ve embarrassed its larger brother had the horsepower been left the same…and it did anyway; it was 1 second faster the 944 from a 0 to 100 mph sprint.
