The Westfalia rollercoaster continues with today’s 1987 model looking like an outstanding value. With many Westfalias reaching above $30k (way above, in some cases), this one comes in at about half that. It’s done its share of roadtripping, with 200k miles on the van, but the engine was rebuilt just 12k miles ago, indicating tons of fun yet to come. Despite some questionable wheel covers, it looks very clean inside and out. Bidding is hot, reflecting a market hungry for affordable Westfalias.

If they weren’t wheel covers, some black wheels would go well with the bold black sticker treatment on the otherwise-standard blue. Westy enthusiasts would do well to investigate examples such as this, as the main differences between this and the more expensive ones for sale seem to be the sellers’ expectations and knowledge of the market. Personally, I get excited when sub-$20k Westies show up because it means they aren’t yet completely out of the question as outstanding value campers.

Black wheels are a pet peeve of mine, especially on jalopies (which this is not), but somehow this execution is not so bad because of all the black trim. But black wheels on jalopies, even on $120k new Audis, is going to soon be looked back upon as leg-warmers and those thorn tattoos circumscribing doughy biceps.
