1990 Porsche 944S2 Cabriolet

When it comes to Porsche exclusivity for your dollar, you would be hard pressed to find a better value than the 944S2 Cabriolet. Less than 2,000 examples made it stateside for one model year, 1990. As of late, values have been creeping up, following the trend of the front-engine, water-cooled set. Boxster a bit too mainstream for your tastes? Here’s a good way to stand out with this fully documented 944S2 Cabriolet for sale in Connecticut.

1990 PORSCHE 944 S2 Cabriolet Convertible

Impeccably maintained, this black on black leather 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet Convertible is one of only 1,824 S2 Cabriolets built for the U.S. that year. Powered by a 3.0 litre DOHC 16V inline 4-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission it was originally rated at 208hp.

The car is equiped with air conditioning, bucket seats, power driver’s seat, fog lights, power heated mirrors, ABS brakes, dual front air bags, power steering, cruise control, power windows & door locks, AM/FM cassette stereo, and original alloy wheels. Mileage is 77,467 as of 9/23/14.

The car has never been in an accident and has been well-cared for down to the last detail. Complete maintenance records available upon request. I’ve owned this car for 4 years and have driven it about 11,000 miles. The tiger-like purr of the motor will be music to your ears as you discover how amazingly responsive a car can be… allowing the driver to become “one with the car.”

$500 deposit required with 48 hours of close of listing. Balance due within 10 days of close of listing.

I find black a bit somber for this car. Drop tops are supposed to be about carefree fun, so I would prefer mine with a bit more vivid of a hue than this black on black combo. Otherwise, this is a well-presented car with reasonable miles in good condition. The asking price of $12,900 is about right in line with where values are on these at the moment. With such a limited number brought stateside to begin with, these open roofed 944s are certainly going to become more valuable as the years pass.

I’ve been going back and forth for several years now on getting one of these. I’ve also done the same with the 968 cab. I just can’t seem to pull the trigger but the values are creeping up on these so I better do something soon.

I don’t mind the black but I think I prefer silver. I find white looks the worst.

Sigh…I guess I should do some research between these and the 968 again to refresh my memory.

Hey cdnpaul – my Carrera is in the shop getting some 30 year old bits and pieces replaced, so I was just driving my wife’s 944 S2 Cab this evening. As we pulled into the driveway, I told her that her car was more fun to drive, in many ways, than mine. The 944 has just as much HP as a mid-80s air cooled 911, better balance, an infinitely better transmission than the 915 one in the old 911 and is just loads of fun. Sure it’s not quite as exciting as an old 911 (don’t lift in the turns!) but dollar for dollar, the 944 S2 is the best sports car value around, hand’s down.

Look around and find a nice one – and buy it! You won’t be sorry.
