One car that seems to resonate with readers here at GCFSB is the E34 BMW 5 series. This car was a bit of a bridge between the older and newer era of BMW. With the help of famed automotive designer, J Mays, few cars really got their proportions so right. The E39 5 series to follow was indeed an evolution of this design which lasted right into the new millennium. One of our favorite E34s is this car here, the 540i Sport, offered during the final production year, 1995. With the disappearance of the M5 from the lineup in 1993, there was a void to fill. US customers got most of the M5 goodies mixed in with BMW’s new 4.0 liter V8. This example for sale in Illinois has the favored 6-speed manual gearbox and is a rather tempting piece indeed for the price.

For sale is my 1995 BMW E34 540i it was built in 9/1995. I bought the car with 82,336 miles on 9/26/2009. I have used Mobil 1 0w40 since I have owned the car. The engine is the original Nikasil, but it has had no issues since my ownership. I even have paper work from the 1st owner who was worried about it at the time, so he had it tested twice at his local BMW dealer and no issue with the Nikasil engine was found. I have a paper trail of all the work I have had done on the car since I have owned it, and even paper work that goes back to the original owner. The only modifications are a Dinan chip, Koni Adjustables, and B & B tri flow cat back. The summer wheels are OEM ordered new from BMW dealer 17×8 Throwing stars forged with Michelin Ps2 235/45ZR17. The winter wheels are the oem 15 inch wheels with Michelin X Ice2 205/65R15. It still has factory stereo with 6 disc cd changer in trunk. If you have any questions on parts that have been replaced, or would like more pictures and information about the 540i please contact me.
I’m always encouraged when I find the classics we enjoy in club classifieds, as these are typically the owners you want to buy from. They usually know a decent amount about the car they are selling and more often than not will be able to add significant color in terms of the vehicle history, such is the case with this car. If this car is as good as it sounds, a price just shy of $7,000 is a really good deal, considering where M5 prices are going. As is the case with the Feature Listing 540i Sport we saw right after the New Year, people are beginning to recognize these rare E34s for what they are worth.
