1996 BMW 318i Touring

Sometimes, basic can be cool. Case in point – today’s E36 Touring. This is about as basic as they came; powered by the M43 1.8 with 114 horsepower, the car has cloth seats, no sunroof, and manual crank rear windows. This is a 1996 BMW, right? In all seriousness, that makes it cooler today. And, in fact, it has some nice optional equipment – heated front seats, air conditioning, a sport steering wheel – even body-color bumpers were optional on the low-end E36s in Europe, and this one has them. Speaking of color, it’s a great one – Montreal Blue Metallic, and even the basic cloth has a neat pattern. Other Euro-slick items like adjustable headlight control and a European cluster top it off, and it’s got alloy wheels too. And it’s in the US already! This means it should cost an arm and a leg, right?

“Overall condition is great for a 26 year old BMW. The vehicle presents itself very well inside and out. No rips in the seats or dents on the outside.Known Flaws:- Rear hatch seems to have been painted at some point in it’s life as it isn’t a perfect match to the rest of the car. You can really only tell in certain lighting. I don’t have records on the paint work as this is how we received the vehicle.- Interior driver side visor mirror is shattered (see pictures)- While the paint does present well expect typical things for a vehicle of this age including minor rock chips, swirls, etc. -Exterior trim is starting to appear faded- Vehicle came from Germany, expect minor surface corrosion underneath. No exterior corrosion or bubbling paint. I will provide pictures of the undercarriage upon request-Wear on driver side carpet (See Pictures)-Driver side rearview mirror glass starting to separate (you can see adhesive) (See Pictures)-Underside of hood fading paint (See Pictures)”

No, no it doesn’t. Honestly, for 11k, this one really seems like a solid deal. Even if there are mechanical woes, what is presented appears to be in good condition and you could easily do any number of swaps here; S52, stick some forged DS2s and a mild suspension upgrade on it, and call it a day. For under 20k, you could have a really neat and fun-to-drive wagon that will stand apart from the crowd. This one seems like it’s hard to go wrong; you can’t get a Euro car here a lot cheaper than this.
