2001 Audi S4 Avant

I’ve noticed an interesting trend over the past few months – vehicles shipped to a Latin American country and then restored. Perhaps this points to a larger issue in the US – specialized work on cars has become very expensive, and far fewer shops are undertaking projects for “average” enthusiasts. Today’s car, a US-spec S4 Avant, is claimed to have been shipped to Puerto Rico and restored. It sure looks good from what is shown, and it has a lot of modifications that should make it seriously quick. Is it worth a roll of the dice?

Well, there’s at least a reasonable list of what was done, and it sounds impressive. From what’s shown in the photos, it also looks really slick. With 420 wheel horsepower claimed, it should also go like a scalded cat. Downsides? There aren’t a lot of photos, any records, and it’s impossible to judge the quality of the work that was done. There’s no VIN, so you can’t search to find if the car was wrecked. And you’re somewhat hoping that this is not a scam entirely, ultimately. For $30k on a used and rebuilt B5, I’d want to see it in person and drive it before paying – and that will be tough here for most people interested. At least it has free shipping?
