The Mercedes CLS signifies one of those rare moments in automotive history when an entirely new vehicle segment was created. Based on the E class chassis, Mercedes introduced the idea of a four-door coupe in 2006, providing those who wanted a bit more style to the sedan formula but didn’t necessarily need as much functionality. It’s safe to say they were successful, as Volkswagen, Audi and BMW went on to copy the idea, among others. Over the course of its lifespan, a few special edition models have emerged, including this CLS55 we see here for sale, an IWC Ingenieur edition. This version included exclusive paint and piano lacquer trim inside, along with an instrument cluster designed to mirror the cues from the IWC series of Ingenieur watches, one of which was included with each of the 55 copies of this vehicle that were produced. This particular CLS55 IWC for sale in California is even more rare in that it is one of three that included a DTM spec transmission.

Of only 55 limited-edition Mercedes CLS 55 AMG “IWC Ingenieur†built, only 3 were upgraded by the factory to a DTM spec motor/gearbox and performance, making this 1 of only 3 in existence, and world class performance! It is a superb 1-owner car and in exceptional condition both cosmetically & mechanically. Be one of only three owners in the world to own one of these rare supercars.
For how rare this CLS version is, I wish better exterior shots were taken, instead of trying to photograph the car in a tight parking space. Also, we know that this isn’t going to be a particularly cheap vehicle to procure, so not listing the price isn’t doing the seller any favors. Regardless, this is a rare piece that probably won’t have much trouble finding a home.
