2010 Porsche Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3

One of the more forgotten “special edition” Porsches of the last ten years, and maybe for good reason, is the Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3. I know, the name rolls right off your tongue! What is the Porsche Design Edition 3? It was Porsche Exclusive Lava Grey Metallic paint with matching wheels, blacked-out bi-xenon headlights, some carbon trim, and some red stitching. That’s it. If you want all of that, it ran you $15,000 more than the contemporary Cayenne GTS. All in all, $90,000. Not cheap. Production was limited to 1,000 units, with rumored 100 or so coming to the US. I can’t remember the last time I saw one of these for sale so naturally I jumped in on taking a deeper look, but given the condition and price tag on this one, I’d probably pass.

Unless you are really into Porsche and Porsche Design accessories, this one probably doesn’t do much for you. The whole bonus outside of the special colors and trim is that you got a titanium-cased automatic chronograph watch and a matching four-piece luggage set when you bought one of these. Great for the first owner, but if these get separated from the vehicle, well, tough luck. I’m really not a fan of the center and side stripes as it looks really tacky, but I suppose I could live with the interior carbon trim and stitching. Sadly, it looks like this example has seen better days. The interior is really weathered and just looks dirty. Under the hood, someone did the classic slimy spray everywhere. Not ideal. Combine all that with absolutely no mention of service history and this one is a quick pass for me. Especially at the current asking price.

$25,000 for this one is crazy. That is the current market price for an average GTS 6-speed, which brings a massive premium over the automatics. This one should be asking in the mid-teens given it has 110,000 miles and is in D+ condition. Porsche Design Edition 3 adds exactly zero to the value given most will find those center stripes ugly and look to remove them, so I’m just not seeing it on this one. Am I missing something here?

Hmm. I don’t see the red stitching on the seats on this one. Either way, I would spend my money on a cayenne with the natural leather interior option. Don’t really like alcantara seat bottoms for cleaning.

yes… a bit rough and I like the following gen better. those are a great deal due to depreciation.

Gee, someone should tell the car companies that people are paying premiums for manual transmission cars. There could be a real business opportunity there!
